NWIBRT has been on a roll lately - We have introduced several new networking events over the last several weeks and also hosted our annual Business & Economic Outlook. Education Committee presented the 2017 Business & Economic Outlook event November 3rd at the Ivy Tech campus in Valparaiso. Hundreds of business owners, leaders, and community representatives gathered in the auditorium to hear presentations from eight region experts about the future of their respective fields for the coming year. The overarching theme from presenters was the need for more qualified talent to fill open positions, despite historic workforce levels. Business Development & Marketing Committee hosted its first ever Meet & Mingle event at the Port of Indiana-Burns Harbor on November 8th. Nearly 100 people came out to meet Port Director Ian Hirt as well as individuals from other companies operating out of the Burns Harbor facility. Attendees also had the chance to take a bus tour of the nearly 600 acres that make up the port to learn about the facility and the 30 businesses that operate within it. Safety Committeeis collaborating with the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) to host the 2017 Winter Safety Seminar on the new SILICA Standard at Purdue University Northwest on December 5th. Attendees must register by November 24th, visit the event page for more details.
