#ThankATeacherPBC: Palm Beach Gardens HS English Teacher Named Teacher of the Week for PBCSD

The surprise on Seth Erstein's face was unmistakable on Thursday morning, as representatives from the School District of Palm Beach County and  ValuTeachers Team SoBetter joined the Palm Beach Gardens High School administration in recognizing him as the District's #ThankATeacherPBC Teacher of the Week.

Mr. Erstein was nominated for the Teacher of the Week award by a former student, who submitted details of the significant impact Mr. Erstein made in his life.

"Without a doubt, Mr. Erstein is the best teacher I have ever had," the student shared. "Even after graduating from PBCSD, I still realize how important his lessons were and how they still apply to my current college classes.  Thank you, Mr. Erstein, for being the coolest, kindest and most amazing English teacher in Palm Beach County." CBS Evening News: Boca Raton Community High School Spreads the Message That Nobody Should Have to Dine Alone

CBS Evening NewsWhen the lunch bell rings at  Boca Raton High School in Florida , 3,400 kids spill into the courtyard and split into their social groups.

But not everyone gets included. As we first reported in March, here at Boca High and at schools across the country, someone always sits alone.

Now he's popular. But he has not forgotten that first-grade feeling.

"To me it's like, if we don't try to go make that change, who's going to do it?" Denis said.

So with some friends, Denis started a club called "We Dine Together."

Their mission is to go into the courtyard at lunchtime to make sure no one is starving for company.

For new kids especially, the club is a godsend. Since it started last year, hundreds of friendships have formed -- some very unlikely.   Read more...

Team "Certified" was awarded $12,500 to purchase CPR dummies and Automated External Defibrillators (AED) simulators that has allowed their fellow academy students to visit middle schools in the District and train students what to do if ever faced with a real-life emergency.

"Some of the students are really into it," said John I. Leonard Medical Academy teacher Tania Martinez. "The middle school students look up to [the high school students] as role models and they are getting great feedback." Read more...
