Leveraging Electronic Health Record (EHR) in Cardiology
Dr. Brandon Fornwalt and Dr. Christopher Haggerty presented "Leveraging Large EHR, Imaging and Genomic Datasets to Generate New Knowledge in Cardiology." These datasets lead to new knowledge that is relevant to patients with heart disease and may change our current understanding of "normal" cardiac function.
Dr. Fornwalt directs the Cardiac Imaging Technology Laboratory at Geisinger, which is a group of engineers, researchers and physician scientists within Geisinger's Department of Imaging Science & Innovation. Projects span multiple fields, including but not limited to biomechanics, image processing, software development, machine Learning, clinical science and medicine, genomics, physiology, and biostatistics and bioinformatics. Dr. Fornwalt's Research Profile
Christopher M. Haggerty, Ph.D.
Penn State Alumnus at Geisinger
Geisinger's Dr. Haggerty is an alumnus of Penn State's Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Penn State Schreyer Honors College. His primary interests include using cardiac mechanics to better understand heart disease, integrating advanced cardiac imaging and genetics to study inherited cardiomyopathies, and improving outcomes for patients with congenital heart disease.
The Department of Imaging Science & Innovation
has provided research experiences with two gap year students and one summer intern from Penn State. Dr. Fornwalt indicated that Geisinger is always hiring and looking for talented people to join their team and encourages CHOT scholars and collaborators to learn about Geisinger opportunities.
CHOT is getting ready for a road trip to Penn State Altoona in February for a Winter Symposium. We will be coordinating the event with Assistant Teaching Professor of Nursing, Delores "Dede" McCreary. Details will be coming soon on our event page.
