This week the Musical Theatre Initiative hosted Jack Viertel , one of Broadway's leading producers, for two talks about creating and producing commercial theatre. Thank you to Joe Deer for coordinating this great opportunity for our students and the public at large to learn more about how Broadway musicals are written and produced.

The English Club will host its second annual Children's Book Drive and Holiday Party next Tuesday, December 5, 12:00-1:30 p.m. in the Millett Hall Atrium. Stop by and reminisce about your favorite childhood reading memories while enjoying some classic story-time snacks like hot cocoa, cookies, and popcorn. Bring a new book to donate to a Dayton-area child in need this season via Hannah's Treasure Chest.

Next Monday, December 4, Motion Pictures alumna Hannah Beachler is coming to campus to be a part of a dialogue about her work as production designer for the Oscar-winning film Moonlight, the upcoming Marvel Comics movie Black Panther, and Beyoncé's music video, Lemonade. All are welcome to attend the event at 3:00 p.m. in Room 280 in the Creative Arts Center. In addition to showing examples of her production designs and talking about her work, Hannah will be giving the Motion Pictures Area (on indefinite loan) her award for production designing Lemonade.

As commencement draws near, I am happy to share that Dean Emeritus Chuck Taylor has donated his cap and gown to the college for use by current faculty. If you would like to borrow them, please contact the Dean's Office.

Just a reminder that the CoLA Dean's Office has four free tickets available for WSU Men's Basketball games. There are three more home games before the end of the year. Please contact Susan or Dawn if you are interested in tickets for the following games:
- Tuesday, December 5, 2017, 7:00 p.m., vs. Ohio Valley
- Saturday, December 9, 2017, 3:00 p.m., vs. Kent State (only 2 tickets available)
- Thursday, December 28, 2017, 7:00 p.m., vs. University of Illinois Chicago

This week's featured member of the Dean's Student Advisory Board (DSAB) is Brody Beaver.  Brody is in his junior year and has been elected as the CoLA Senator. Before becoming a Senator, he served in the Freshman Internship Program under the Student Affairs Committee and was later appointed as the leader of the Tabling Committee. Brody is pursuing a Mass Communication degree at Wright State while also working on his Aviation ratings at Sinclair. Being a goal-oriented individual, Brody has been enlisted in the Air National Guard for three years, owns a rental property, and has earned his private pilot license and commercial drone license.
