The Accidentals

The Accidentals were Billboard's Breakout Band at SXSW 2015, Huffington Post's Sweet Sixteen of 2016, and Yahoo Music's Top Ten Bands to Watch 2017. Described by John Sinkevics of Local Spins as "genre-melding indie-folk," The Accidentals (Sav Buist, Katie Larson, and Michael Dause) exhibit "a musical and lyrical sophistication that outstrips most mainstream bands."

New Work for Goldberg Variations

In New Work for Goldberg Variations, pianist Simone Dinnerstein brings her nuanced understanding of J.S. Bach's ambitious keyboard series together with rule-breaking choreographer Pam Tanowitz's witty and unflinchingly post-modern abstractions of classical and popular dance forms. Deconstructing formal and traditional movement vocabularies, New Work for Goldberg Variations converses with Bach's iconic score in a delightful interplay of rhythm, style, and idiosyncrasy, demonstrating the rich emotional world lying beneath the poised surface of the Goldbergs' musical architecture.  
 
 
The Music of Zen

Founding member Mike Krisukas and the current instrumentalists of Zen For Primates gather again to present The Music of Zen For Primates, with Jodi Beder on cello, Shelagh Maloney on violin and Pete Fluck on sax & harmonica. The evening also features the original members of Zen, Mark Golin on violin and Dave Smith on sax. Joining them is Doug Hawk and other guest vocalists. 
 


 
John McEuen and 
the Circle Band

It's a barnburner of a show in Jim Thorpe with John McEuen, the former member and founder of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, with his Circle Band, formerly and aptly known as the String Wizards. Guests include Andy Goessling, multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire with Railroad Earth, and the talented Caroline Doctorow. John and his unique cast of iconic Americana string wizards share the music and memories of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's incredible 50-year career and the landmark "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" platinum album, initiated by John.



  Classics Take a Latin Beat

Soloist Jordan Dodson performs with Elizabeth Mendoza on guitar and Astor Piazzolla on cello "The Grand Tango for Cello and Strings" along with "Variaciones Concertantes" by Alberto Ginastera and Joaquin Rodrigo's "Concierto de Aranjuez" for guitar and orchestra.
 
 
  LU Wind Ensemble: Signatures

The Wind Ensemble explores the word 'signature,' from meter signatures to key signatures and signature works of wind band composers. David Diggs, director.

James Vivian, actor, director, writer and a co-founder of one of the Valley's newest theatre companies, the Easton Theatre Co-Op, joins Kate and George to talk about the Easton Theatre Co-op and their newest projects as well as the bustling Easton arts community.

At the Movies: "Marshall" is a powerful film about a Bridgeport, Connecticut, civil rights case in 1941 that was pivotal in the life and career of Atty. Thurgood Marshall, who in 1967 become the first African-American to be appointed to the United States Supreme Court. Director Reginald Hudlin handles the controversial material with care, emphasizing the human drama as well as the importance of the case in Marshall's career and in the Civil Rights movement. Chadwick Boseman is in the lead role of Thurgood Marshall. Paul Willistein of the Lehigh Valley Press reviews the Biography/Drama.

To help us understand some of the options and where we can get further information, Eleanor speaks with volunteers from the PA State Health Insurance Program APPRISE-- Dana Mehta from the Northampton County APPRISE program and  John Teufel from the Lehigh County APPRISE program.

The program presents a wide variety of artists and music tonight -- from the familiar to the rare. Among the highlights are versions of Hobo's Lullaby, Raspberries, Strawberries, and Greenfields that you've likely never heard before  -- performed by the composers.

At 3 pm, Michigan indie alt-Americana band The Accidentals joins host Bill Dautremont-Smith in the studio for a live performance and interview about their meteoric career. This young multi-instrumentalist trio are on a national tour promoting their third album,  Odyssey , that has garnered critical acclaim and a lot of airplay on WDIY. The band will be performing that night at SteelStacks in Bethlehem in the Fowler Blast Furnace Room.
