Winter Break Dates: December 15-January 5th

Ms. Josie (PreK):   PreK at Shalom School has been going very well. We've all enjoyed learning about the holidays, Shabbat, mitzvot, and tzedakah. We loved having grandparents and special friends come to our breakfast that we hosted. We received wonderful ball caps!

Mrs. Catherine (Kindergarten):  Kindergarten had a busy first semester! We celebrated holidays and learned about Shabbat and the first few stories in the Torah. Currently we are preparing to celebrate Chanukah.

Mrs. Michelle (2nd Grade): 2nd grade is winding down a great semester and revving up for more learning! We are looking forward to performing for our loved ones in our Hanukkah program, and are very excited about our students that have shown their mastery in Hebrew letters (we have a big surprise in store).

Ms. Risa (4th/5th Grade): 4th and 5th graders have been studying about one of our matriarchs, Rebecca. They have also started to rehearse for our Hanukkah program and I'm amazed by how many great performers we have in our class. We are also going to be learning about the different regions the Jewish people lived in and the differences of those cultures. I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving and will enjoy their winter break.

Ms. Amanda (6th Grade):  The 6th Grade has been learning about the power of speech. This lesson deals with the importance of being careful of what we say, both to others and about others. Even speech that is truthful can be harmful if it is not given the proper thought.

Ms. Devra (7th Grade):   After finishing our last lesson on the Haskalah in Europe, better known as the Jewish Enlightenment, our 7 th  grade class has moved onto America. We have been learning about the first Jews in America during the same time as the Haskalah movement in Europe. We discussed how the first Jews arrived in America and the places they settled throughout the Thirteen Colonies. We'll be focusing on the Jewish impact during the colonial period and their involvement in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars.
