Anton Chekhov's '3Sisters' at
Suffolk's Modern Theatre
The Suffolk University Theatre Department is proudly welcoming guest-director, Artistic Director of the Harbor Stage Company, Robert Kropf, for his adaptation of Anton Chekhov's "3Sisters" opening Nov. 16th at the Modern Theatre.
Eighteen Suffolk students are featured in this re-imagining of Chekhov's iconic play. The play is set in 2019, in Moscow, Illinois. In the wake of a global disaster, a few survivors have taken refuge in the ruins of a decimated library.

Macy's Holiday Tree Lighting Festivities Nov. 24th
Macy's Annual Holiday Tree Lighting is so much more than a tree lighting on Black Friday (Friday, Nov. 24th). There are children's events, musical performances, celebrity appearances, professional athletes, and of course, Santa Claus.
The celebration kicks off with holiday activities for kids of all ages at 12 pm in the Kids Department (lower level). There will be face painting, balloon art and more.
At 5 pm the Macy's holiday windows will be displayed and the Christmas tree will be lit on Summer Street with Mayor Martin Walsh and Santa Claus leading the countdown, |

'Harsh is Truth' at the
Old South Meeting House on Nov. 16th
A multi-media performance by Masary Studios poses the questions: How is truth defined? And how do different perceptions of truth converge in public spaces? These questions and more will be discussed at "Harsh is Truth" at the Old South Meeting House (310 Washington St.) on Thursday, Nov. 16th.
Live, original music fused with video projections will highlight Old South Meeting House's unique history as a place to rise, resist, and share one's personal truth.
Visitors can explore the Old South Meeting House starting at 6:30 pm, and the performance is from 7-7:45 pm. After the performance, guests may talk with Masary Studios artists, National Park Service representatives, museum staff and other audience members on the competing truths that have built our nation and will shape our future. This is a free event, but registration is requested by clicking here.

Freedom Trail Foundation Historic Holiday Strolls Begin Nov. 16th
The Freedom Trail Foundation's Annual Historic Holiday Strolls begin Nov. 16th and run through January 2018.
The festive atmosphere of the city, set against the backdrop of Boston's historic sites, makes these merry 90-minute tours a great way to celebrate the holidays.
The strolls are led by Dickensian costumed guides departing from the ArtsBoston Booth at Faneuil Hall. Strolls include a visit to the Omni Parker House for refreshments and world-famous Boston cream pie.
Tickets are $29 for adults and $19 for children and reservations are required 24 hours in advance. Tours can also be booked as private family or group tours. The strolls are offered Thursdays through Sundays at 3:30 pm.

'Global Arts, Eats & Beats' at CIC Boston Nov. 17th
CIC Boston (50 Milk St.) is hosting a free event, "Global Arts, Eats & Beats" on Friday, Nov. 17th. The event will feature a variety of Guatemalan and Colombian culture, art, food, beverage and more.

ArtsEmerson Presents 'Gardens Speak' Through Nov. 19th
"Gardens Speak" is a unique full-body interactive experience in which Lebanese artist Tania El Khoury carefully reconstructs the oral histories of 10 ordinary people and transforms Syrian statistics into universal, human stories. It is at Emerson College's Paramount Center through Nov. 19th.
Across Syria, many gardens conceal the dead bodies of activists and protesters who took to the streets during the early periods of the uprising against the Ba'athist government in 2011. These domestic burials play out a continuing collaboration between the living and the dead -- each providing safety, truth and a voice for each other.

Play-Within-a-Play 'Kiss' at Paramount Through Nov. 19th
Chilean playwright and director Guillermo Calderón's "Kiss" brings masterful sensibility to an intense, tightly wound new production where naiveté can turn out to be the kiss of death. The play is at Emerson College's Paramount Center through Nov. 19th.
When a young, aspiring theatre troupe discovers and performs what they believe is a Syrian soap opera, they come to realize just how much they don't know. Kiss is a brilliant play-within-a-play that shows how misunderstanding cultural cues can reveal blind spots you never knew you had.

Massachusetts Vision Zero Coalition Participating in
World Day of Remembrance on Nov. 19th
The Massachusetts Vision Zero Coalition is organizing a day of actions to honor those injured or killed on roads across Massachusetts as part of the international World Day of Remembrance on Sunday, Nov. 19th.
There will be a Ride for Remembrance gathering at Copley Square at noon and departing for a one-hour ride at 12:15 pm and ending to join a walk to the State House. At 1:30 pm there will be a Memorial Walk and Vigil at the Boston Common (Beacon and Charles streets at the State House). There will be a memorial vigil at 2 pm on the State House steps. CIC Boston (50 Milk St.) will host a post-vigil gathering at 3:15 pm, which will include refreshments and a documentary about Anita Kurmann, who was hit by a truck while cycling on Massachusetts Avenue in 2015. |

Celebrate 150th Anniversary of
'A Christmas Carol' at
Omni Parker House's
Dinner with Dickens on
Nov. 28th
Join the Omni Parker House (60 School St.) in celebration of the 150th anniversary of Charles Dickens' first American reading of his classic, "A Christmas Carol," on Tuesday, Nov. 28th.
Dickens resided at the Parker House during his 1867-68 American lecture tour, and joined members of the famed Saturday Club at the hotel for one particularly memorable meeting on November 30, 1867. It was there, he recited his classic tale to his peers, before performing it to the American public the following evening at the Tremont Theater next door.
The evening will feature a five-course meal featuring items reminiscent of the Victorian era. English actor and performer
Gerald Roderick Charles Dickens will perform an excerpt from his great-great-grandfather's famous work. Your ticket includes the five-course meal, wine pairings, a commemorative gift, tax and gratuity.
All proceeds from the event will benefit Omni's Say Goodnight To Hunger initiative, which provides donations
directly to Feeding America and the Greater Boston Food Bank.

Singers Strolling Streets
The Downtown Boston BID's entertainment season features three performance groups who are strolling throughout the Downtown Crossing area.
The Downtown Boston Dixieland Band is strolling through the area on Wednesdays and Saturdays twice
daily from
noon to 2 pm
and again from
4:30 to 6:30 pm
.
The Downtown Boston Brass Band is strolling through the area on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays twice daily from noon to 2 pm and again from 4:30 to 6:30 pm.
The Downtown Boston Singers, a quartet singing group, is strolling through the area performing on Mondays and Thursdays from noon to 2 pm and again from 4:30 to 6:30 pm.

The Downtown Boston BID's Little Free Library is outside of Walgreens on Washington Street and is very popular. Readers are welcome to take a book, and encouraged to leave a book. People are also welcome to donate books by leaving them at the library or by contacting BID staffer Kristen Flanagan at [email protected] to organize a pickup in the downtown area.

is open 10 am to 6 pm daily (closed during inclement weather). |

Walsh Wins Second Term;
Ed Flynn Elected District 2
Boston City Councilor;
Six Women Now on Boston City Council!
Tuesday's Election Day was historic in many ways as Mayor Martin Walsh earned a second-term after defeating District 7 City Councilor Tito Jackson.
"We commit once again to be a city for all of us, to bring opportunity to everyone," said Walsh at his Election Day party after being victorious. "You were union members, housing advocates, artists, members of the LGBT community . . . you are Boston.
Your passion for this city inspires me."
The Downtown Boston BID also has a new city councilor after Ed Flynn, the son of former Boston Mayor Ray Flynn, was elected as the District 2 City Councilor. Flynn defeated Mike Kelley.

"I promised you during the campaign that if elected, I would represent everyone in District 2, regardless of your zip code. Now, I start the work of doing that," wrote Flynn in a Facebook post. "Boston is a great city, not because of its architecture or sports teams or restaurants. Boston is a great city because of its people. And it is a city where we treat everyone with kindness and respect. And D2 is a special place within Boston because of the diverse backgrounds represented here."
Flynn was one of several new city councilors elected on Nov. 7th. Also, joining the Boston City Council in the New Year will be Lydia Edwards (District 1) and Kim Janey (District 7). With Edwards and Janey being elected there will now be six women on the Boston City Council, which is the most ever for the council.

You Can Help Those In Need Through These Downtown Boston Organizations
Many of us have warm homes and meals during the holiday season. But there are many people who are in need of meals, a place to stay and clothing. You can make a difference for those in need by volunteering or donating to several downtown Boston organizations.
Boston Rescue Mission (39 Kingston St.)
accepts individual volunteers and groups of up to six people. Volunteers may perform numerous duties, including work as a front desk attendant, kitchen staff, maintenance, drivers, laundry and office work. Click

Bridge Over Troubled Waters (47 West St.) offers several volunteer opportunities, including meal preparation, medical care, providing education, create a fundraising drive and more. Click here for more information and to fill out a volunteer application.

St. Anthony Shrine (100 Arch St.) operates more than 30 programs and initiatives, including the Franciscan Food Center that provides food to those in need, as well as other programs that provide food to the homeless.
