MEM Hosted ScrumMaser Workshop Facilitated by Agile For All
MEM Students Taught to Master a Lean and Agile Mindset

In early November 50 students from MEM, MSIT, MSiA, and MSLOC attended a two day Certified ScrumMaster Workshop, which was facilitated by Bob Hartman from Agile For All. Students were able to learn Scrum, as well as how to apply a lean/agile mindset. The workshop was a great opportunity for students to understand the skill sets and practices required to succeed as a Certified ScrumMaster.  A special thanks to MEM Industry Advisory Board member, Jay Goldstein, for helping to organize the workshop!

MEM490: Product Management - Student Portfolio Feedback

MEM490: Product Management students need your feedback on their products for class!  Faculty and alumni are encouraged to fill out the following survey link showcasing student products

Product Management-101 is an action oriented course that helps students learn the fundamentals of Product Management by creating products customers need. Working mostly in teams of three or four, students are expected to:
  1. Pick an idea they are passionate about;
  2. Formulate a research plan to evaluate user needs;
  3. Develop a Market Requirements Document (MRD);
  4. Create wireframes for their proposed product and conduct usability testing;
  5. Develop a Product Requirements Document (PRD) while getting certified as a ScrumMaster (CSM).

Each week students present their key findings and deliverables as assignments. Students receive feedback from the Professor, PM professionals and peers in class to help hone their products.

For aspiring Product Managers, MEM-490 exposes students to the best practices of product management, necessary for building meaningful products. Product Management-102 could be a great follow-up course, where students can hone their skills relevant to development and launch phases. Whereas for aspiring Entrepreneurs, MEM-490 is designed to expose students to recognize how ideas can be turned into meaningful products. A relevant follow-up course could be any of the NUVention courses through the Farley Center to help students understand how their products can become a viable business in the real world.

MEM Webinar Recap: "TRIZ - The Theory of Creative Problem Solving"
Dan Heck Hosted Professional Development Opportunity

On November 7, Dan Heck hosted a webinar on TRIZ - The Theory of Creative Problem Solving.  About 30 students, prospective applicants, and alumni attended the webinar in total. Participants were able to join the discussion to answer such questions as: Why do some engineers and scientists think so much more radically than others? Why are most inventions incremental and boring, but about 20% are blockbusters or paradigm shifters?

Check the MEM webinar web page to watch the TRIZ video and view previous webinar recordings.
