A Note from Dean Cavalieri

With the beginning of the year-end holiday season upon us, I want to pause to let you know how grateful I am for all that you do to promote our school and enrich the lives of our students and patients. Although the calendar year may be winding down, we are still seeing a steady stream of significant achievements and honors by our faculty, staff and students. I hope you take the time to see some of those highlights below, including international recognition for Dr. Narsimha Pinninti, a national award for one of our students and a first-place finish by students from SOM's Emergency Medicine Club.

My best,

Thomas A. Cavalieri, DO, MACOI, FACP

Fall Inter-Professional Grand Rounds Focuses on Postpartum Depression

More than 120 students, faculty and staff from Glassboro campus, the School of Osteopathic Medicine and Cooper Medical School of Rowan University attended the Fall Inter-Professional Grand Rounds, "Postpartum Depression: An Inter-Professional Approach to Treatment," earlier this month. The program featured a multidisciplinary panel that presented a case of a new mother experiencing symptoms of postpartum depression. The panelists addressed a wide range of considerations for working with this patient, including treatment approaches, assessment and prevention, and psychotherapy. The panelists included: Dr. Jacqueline Kaari, Associate Professor and Chair, Pediatrics; Dr. Ronald Ayres, Acting Chair, Ob/Gyn; Dr. Rachel Shmuts, Assistant Clinical Professor, Psychiatry, and Director of the Rowan Medicine Women's Mental Health Clinic; and Janel Morey-Sassano, MSW, LSW, a social worker with Mindful Soul Center for Wellbeing.

The Inter-Professional Grand Rounds program brings together panelists from a variety of health care fields to discuss their role in the comprehensive care of a patient. The goal of this program is to provide an opportunity for students to learn about how these providers collaborate on a given case to ensure optimal patient care.
