Paly-Jordan Band Concert! CORRECTED
Wednesday, November 15 at 7:30 pm, Paly PAC
Come to the joint concert by the Palo Alto High School Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and the Jordan 8th Grade Symphonic Band! You will hear the Paly Symphonic Band with movements from Gustav Holst's Second Suite in F and the Concert Band with melodies reflecting the landscapes of the Western United States in Pierre LaPlante's Prairie Songs. The Jordan Symphonic Band will delight the audience with As Summer was Just Beginning, a beautiful piece written for James Dean, as well as a fun modern piece with many special effects titled The Cave You Fear. The concert will conclude with all three bands performing portions of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition.

Tea and snacks donations for the Wellness Center
Our students are very happy when there are tea and snacks available in the Wellness Center! We seek your help in providing decaffeinated tea bags, cocoa, healthy nut free foods, fresh fruit and vegetable trays to support all these activities. ACE Mentor Program Info Session - Tues., Dec. 5 5:30- 6:30 - FGY Architects (81 Encina Ave., Palo Alto) NEW
Interested in learning more about career options in the Architecture, Construction, and Engineering fields? The ACE Mentor Program is a free after-school program where groups of high school students meet with a team of mentors (professionals from these fields) for 15 weeks. The program typically includes: tours of local construction sites and industry offices, presentations about the ACE fields from guest speakers and mentors, group design challenges including the CIRT national design project. No prerequisites or special skills required.

College Rep Visits for Seniors (and Juniors, if space is available) 
Students must have their teacher's permission one day in advance if missing class. Pick up a form in the C&CC, or download it at admit-class-form-college-and-career-center . Bring the signed form the day of the visit to ensure the absence from class is cleared and marked as an activity rather than a truancy. College visits scheduled for the next two weeks are listed below. Parenting a child with special needs has unique challenges, so taking good care of yourself is important.  Join us for a healthy and tasty breakfast buffet, wellness-related raffle prizes and a presentation by Assistant Superintendent Lana Conaway.  She will speak about equity, access, wellness and safety for all students, especially those receiving Special Education services.  Ms. Conaway is one of PAUSD's new leaders and oversees Special Education, Counseling, Health and Wellness in her role as Assistant Superintendent of Strategic Initiatives and Operations.  Childcare will not be provided, but children are welcome.  Spanish language translation will be available.  Hosted by the Palo Alto Community Advisory Committee for Special Education and the Palo Alto Council of PTAs.  For questions contact  [email protected]

Dancers Repertory Theatre presents 'Twas the Night Before Christmas NEW

This is a delightful dance-theatre event that will enchant audiences of all ages!  Based on the Clement C. Cantabile Chorus Registration and Auditions (Grade K-9)

Play Palooza - The Children's Theatre Ten Minute Playwriting Contest
Submission Deadline:  Fri, Dec 22 @ 12AM
The Children's Theatre is pleased announce the 2017-18  Play Palooza Ten Minute Playwriting contest .  Play Palooza gives young writers an excellent opportunity to showcase their talents.  Students can submit original work in three categories:  Elementary School (3rd-5th grade), Middle School (6th-8th grade), and High School (9th-12th grade).  Winning plays receive a staged reading at the Children's Theatre, and winning playwrights receive prizes donated by the Friends of the Palo Alto Children's Theatre.  Submissions can be submitted electronically to  [email protected]

Silicon Valley Boychoir Auditions
Fri, Nov 3, 10, and 17 by appointment, Palo Alto
Auditions for the January semester will be held at the choir's rehearsal location near downtown Palo Alto (600 Homer Ave).  Open to 2nd-5th grade boys.  High school and middle school boys with choral experience may audition for upper levels.  SVB provides a personalized approach to teaching singing, music theory, and sight-reading, while providing flexible scheduling for busy families.  In addition to their own winter and spring concerts, SVB performs for local events including appearances with Stanford University Symphonic Chorus and Orchestra, West Bay Opera, Schola Cantorum of Mountain View, and singing the national anthem at sporting events.

Each time you shop at the Whole Foods Market downtown PA between Oct 15 to Jan 15 and bring in your own bags, Whole Foods will donate 5 cents per bag to our Palo Alto PTA Council.  The PTAC will be able to use these funds for more programs and events for our PAUSD students, staff, and parents!

Stanford University Research Study (Girls, 8-12) NEW
Researchers at Stanford University are looking for girls ages 8-12 with learning and/or behavior challenges to participate in a study exploring brain development in relation to behavior, cognition, and mood in girls.  Participation involves a comprehensive cognitive and behavioral evaluation and MRI/NIRS scan (safe, non-invasive, no x-rays/radiation).  Results of the evaluation are available to all participants and there is a $100 honorarium for participation.  For more information contact  [email protected]  or 650-724-2951.
