A Message from the FA Board Chair |
Dear Frederica Academy Community,
As we soon head into the Thanksgiving holiday, I want to say how grateful I am for our Frederica family. I'm thankful for Miss Fleming for serving as our amazing interim Head of School; the Frederica Leadership Team members for so capably and professionally leading our school as they work joyfully with our students, parents and faculty; our talented teachers for their expertise and dedication in and out of the classroom; our extraordinary students who are developing into passionate lifelong learners; our parents who partner with the school every step of the way; and my fellow Board of Trustees for their wisdom in planning for the future of Frederica Academy.
The FA Board of Trustees just concluded its annual Board Retreat last week where we discussed our mission, philosophy, vision, beliefs, and strategic plan. We are focusing on clarity and alignment with the board and school leadership and will share these guiding principles once we complete this work at the end of this month. It is our goal that all of us feel inspired by the mission of Frederica Academy and its vision for the future.
During our retreat, we also developed plans for a community outreach task force which is being led by trustee Jim Walker in partnership with Helen Rentz in the Admission office. The objective of this group is to get the good word out about our school ... among ourselves as well as with prospective new families. The task force will systematically engage small working groups and affinity teams to identify and cultivate a connection with families who would be a great fit with Frederica Academy. If you have an interest in being a part of this endeavor, please click HERE to contact Helen Rentz so that you can become involved in this important initiative.
Finally, please know that the Search Committee remains hard at work identifying viable candidates for our next Head of School, and preliminary interviews have begun. We are excited about the candidates who we are currently screening. We look forward to bringing finalists on campus in December with hopes of announcing the new Head of School in January. One effective tool in this process has been to use our own network for candidate identification. Since all of you are a part of our network, we encourage you to talk to others you may know in the independent school universe in order to identify potential leads for the Search Committee. If you have connections with anyone who stands out to you, please click HERE to contact Greer Brown, our Search Committee Chair.
As you know, the RSM golf tournament is in town this week. This fun event always reminds me of what a vibrant and interconnected community that we live in ... as well as what a special place the Golden Isles are to call home. I am proud to think of our school community as vibrant and interconnected as we are at our best when we are all working together to achieve the mission of Frederica Academy.
Warmest regards.
Frederica Academy Board of Trustees Chair

FA Sister School Update (Jubilee Haiti)
|
"This past week, Alisha Seymour and I traveled to our sister school in Jubilee Haiti. We had two main focuses: delivering pen pal letters from our Lower School students and teaching soldering and technology skills in a trade school affiliated with the Jubilee School. Once the skills were learned, we taught students how to make a solar powered cell phone charger, based on a model designed and tested by Frederica Academy's Upper School student Adrienne Stubbs. In addition to these activities, we were also able to deliver the generously donated school supplies from our Lower School families. Once again, our trip served as a means of strengthening the connection between our students and schools, and we are thankful for your continued love and support of this mission that helps to make our school the wonderful service community it is."

Middle School Surfer Speaker Assembly
|
"I
was so honored to have my cousin, Jason Latham, SUP professional surfer, speak with the middle school students during our assembly and fourth grade during their guidance time last Tuesday. You will not meet a more humble, gentle, and friendly person. With his special knack for storytelling, Jason inspired our students to pursue their passion with a purpose. He shared that the first time he got on a surfboard he knew he discovered his passion. He encouraged students to pay attention to what energizes them and rather than talk about it, be about it! He talked about how setbacks, like when he was injured on a coral reef while surfing in Samoa, are a part of the journey and not to allow them to stop you. Finally, he inspired students to use their passion to give back in some way. Jason advocates for clean water initiatives.
One of my 4th grade students game up to me after our class and said "you are so lucky that he's your cousin." I couldn't agree more!"
- Rachel Lee, Lower and Middle School Counselor

Kindergarten Shines Every Day
|
"Kindergarten enjoyed a very special activity this week! We have been learning how to be healthy. As a part of this fun unit, we have studied our five senses, made a list of healthy and "bad" foods, classified which clothing is best for each season, and discussed the importance of sleep. As a bonus activity, a very gracious family blessed us with these amazing bracelets with beads that change when they are in sunlight! It was a terrific learning experience about the importance of getting outside to enjoy exercise and sunshine as well as remembering the solar eclipse earlier this year. Thank you, Ethan, for reminding us how cool solar power is!
Kindergarten "shines" each and every day!"
