NJAHPERD BOARD MEMBERS
Laurie Cancalosi, President
Jackie Malaska, Executive Director
|
Hello,
Hope all of you have enjoyed your Thanksgiving holiday. As we head into the colder months, it may be a time for sedentary behavior. It is a known fact that youth and adults alike are more physically active in the summer months than in the winter. As Physical and Health Educators, we know that declines in activity can combine with increases in caloric intake over the holidays, leading to weight gain and negative affective states. Please try and stay active and turn those winter "blah's" into active "ahhhh's!"
Here are some updates as to what NJAHPERD has been up to;
- Some of our Executive Board members attended the NJ School Boards Convention in late October.
- During the same time we had our Adaptive Conference. There were many exciting speakers who inspired our members.
- Early November we attended the NJEA Convention. This was very exciting as we had many new members visit our booth and bring others to sign up. Thanks to all who came out to visit!
- The Convention manager, aka executive director Jackie Malaska, along with EB members have been working tirelessly with setting up this year's convention in February. We have some really exciting new speakers as well as return speakers. Our preliminary schedule has been set and will be made available as all presenters confirm. Keep an eye out. If you have not done so please register.
- The biggest project we have been working on is searching for a new executive director. We have many qualified candidates. We will be doing interviews December 16th and hopefully have a new executive director by early January.
Thank you for making a difference each and every day. As I meet members at our PD events and have a chance to speak with you, I am more confident that our profession and our students are in good hands! I hope to see you at one or more of our upcoming workshops:
Last, but surely not least, please join me at our upcoming Health Education Conference,
"Stay Strong, Live Long!"
December 11, 2017,
Ramada Plaza Hotel & Conference Center Cranbury Monroe, NJ
.
This conference is the best one in the state for K-12 health teachers.
Enjoy the chilly weather as we enter into the holiday months, and remember to be safe by dressing appropriately for weather conditions.
Laurie Cancalosi,
Ed.D.

Using the concepts of deliberate practice, this session will provide participants with strategies they can begin to apply immediately as they strive to become an expert teacher of sport. Attention Driver Education Teachers
The new NJMVC Driver Education Knowledge exam has been released. Public schools can pick up the exam disc at their county superintendent's office. Non-public schools had a copy shipped directly to the school. You must complete the confirmation form and return it to MVC. If you have question about exam disc distribution you can contact the NJ MVC office at
[email protected] or call 609-292-6500 x3073
The new exam is still called 6.0. The disc cover has a label that indicates the exam has been revised with a revision date of 10/27. Each of the seven (7) exam copies has a revision date of 8/2017 on the last page. This is the only exam you should be using.
NJMVC did make several corrections. However, there are still some issues. As you review the revised exam, if you detect any errors please send the information to NJAHPERD. In the email subject please write EXAM ERROR. Please include in your message the exam number and question number.
The following is information that teachers around the state have been asking about.
- Scantron may be used. Attach the scantron to the exam.
- Each student should have their own copy of the exam. They must fill out the top portion.
- A student can take the exam in school before they are 16. The card (certificate) expires on their 18th birthday.
- If a student is taking the exam on their own at MVC they must be 17 years of age. - Young Adult Method.
- The 30 Hour Classroom Theory course is 30 clock hours. Depending on your school's schedule this may be more than 30 class periods. Assemblies or special Driver Ed presentations can count toward the 30 hours.
