DECEMBER 2017

A message from the President & Founder, Lauren Genkinger

Thank you for all the goldens you have helped us give new lives to with the time you volunteer and the dollars you give us.  We just don't find new homes for these dogs.  They each go to one of our wonderful VCA veterinarians and get all the medical care they need.  And that costs a lot of money, like nearly $2,000 per dog we bring into the AGA program.  When we find our dogs, many of them are in rough shape - particularly the ones from TURKEY.  It is getting dangerous over there with Turkey being so close to Syria.  So we are their only hope for a wonderful life.  And remember, Life is better with a Golden!  We have found homes for nearly 4,000 dogs and every adopter of those dogs tells me personally how their family has been enriched and completed once they adopted their AGA golden from us.

In fact, it is not all about the dogs at AGA.  It is about the people we make happy too.  That is why you will see our new tag line "Life is better with a golden" on everything starting in December.  We will begin asking everyone to post how their AGA golden makes their life better for our adoption stories and on facebook because making people happy along with seeing the joy our dogs get is what keeps us going everyday.  We are changing not only dogs' lives but many peoples lives and making them better!

I know my life would be so different without my 4 goldens in my life and nothing makes me happier when I hear about people adopting from us and how happy they are watching their new family member grow into their family, and how their golden just makes them laugh and smile and feel needed every day.

So, it's not just about fixing these dogs, and that's why you should think about volunteering for AGA - we make lives better because "Life is better with a golden" (or 2 or 4!)

Please think about giving your time or make a donation to AGA now - it will go Twice as far during our matching campaign going on right now.  Thank you for allowing us to make lives better, join us!

ORPHAN OF THE MONTH

Hello everyone! I am an out of town dog who just arrived at AGA from SEVA (Southeastern Virginia golden rescue).  My first rescue group thought I could use some special attention in the way of training because I've lived outside all my life (which is 7 or 8 years) and don't know a lot about being social.  I do have good house manners and don't have accidents and I don't chew up things that I shouldn't!  They say I am a very sweet girl but once in a while I might get bossy and want to do things my way.  I guess I never learned about sharing a home and toys and things so, for now, maybe it's best if I look for a home where I am the only dog and where I can have a fence around my yard so I can learn about going outside and coming back in.  Please help me - I'm really excited to be looking for a new family and home.
