A Note from Mrs. Ryan    11/29/17
Dear Parents,

The season of Advent begins this Sunday. Advent is the season of the Church's year that is set aside to prepare our hearts for the birth of Jesus. An important theme during Advent is the concept of waiting - - waiting for our savior to be born and all of the uncertainty that came with it for people of the Old Testament, who yearned for their messiah. All of us can relate to that uncertainty and impatience as we wait for things to return to normalcy in the aftermath of the fire. When will this new normal become routine? When will we quit having a visceral reaction every time we smell smoke or hear a siren?  And when will we be able to return to our home campus?

I can tell you that many people are working very hard behind the scenes to get us back to 4300 Old Redwood Highway as soon as possible and it is likely that this will happen during January. I understand that there is a lot of talk among you about the safety of water and air quality when we return to campus.   I am not an expert in this area but I do know that we will not be given the go ahead to occupy our home campus until the people who are experts deem it safe.  Meanwhile I continue to find hope in your children who amaze me on a daily basis with their resilience and ability to find the silver linings in this situation.

Our Christmas program this year will focus on the Catholic Advent tradition of the Jesse Tree. Students in Kindergarten through Grade Six will sing Christmas carols. The 7
th and 8
th graders will narrate the program using Bible verses and art work which depict Christian salvation history that is symbolized on the Jesse Tree. The program will take place Thursday, December 21
st at 7:00 PM in St. Rose Church.

Last week our school's Advisory Council endorsed the following changes to the school calendar. A total of four days have been added to the calendar: November 1, December 22, February 16, and February 20.  March 2
nd, which had been scheduled as a minimum day, is now a full day. Even though the public schools chose not to increase academic days, we felt it was important to add what we could without disrupting graduation and family vacation times by extending school further into June.

Thank you for your patience and understanding with the changes in the conference schedule this year.  The teachers are looking forward to sharing your child's progress with you during your time together.

Sincerely,
Kathy Ryan
School Principal

AFTER SCHOOL PICK-UP REMINDER
We'd like to remind parents, grandparents, babysitters, and anyone who comes to pick up students after-school, to please try not arrive on campus before 2:30. If you do, please find a parking spot until 2:30 before lining up for pick-up. This is an active parish, and there are business tenants on the second floor of the building, who have clients that must have access to the parking lot. The pick up routine is different than that at the home campus and we must respect this space we are borrowing right now. We can't have cars lining up in the parking lot before 2:30 pm.  Please be sure everyone who picks up your children understand.  We thank you for your cooperation.
 2018 ST. ROSE PARISH FESTIVAL
Silent Auction Committee meetings will be starting soon. Be involved! We need you!
We are looking for more committee members. Please email or call Maridel Perlas if you'd like to get involved and volunteer:  [email protected] / (707) 540-2168

School Policy for Illness (from school handbook)
It's that time of year! Colds, coughs, sniffles, flu, etc.
All those little germs and bugs are busy jumping around the classrooms.
Here are a few basic guidelines for parents whose child(ren) may be coming down with a bug!

Fever
Fever free for 24 hours without Tylenol or Motrin before returning to school
Cough / Cold / Runny Nose
Few younger children can effectively blow their nose and wash hands afterwards. A child with thick or constant nasal discharge should remain home until clear to avoid spreading illness to others.
Vomiting/Diarrhea A child should be free of vomiting/diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.
Strep Throat
Notify office. A child is contagious until he/she has been on antibiotics for 24 hours. Child should remain home for 24 hours of treatment and until feeling better.
Lice
Notify office. Child may return to school after lice treatment
Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis)
Notify office. Child may return to school 24 hours after treatment has begun. No discharge from the eyes.
The 24 hour test
A child should stay home for at least 24 hours if the following symptoms are present the morning of school or the previous night:
  • Vomiting and/or diarrhea
  • Fever 100+
  • Itchy or reddened eyes with discharge (see Dr)
  • Unusual rash (see Dr.)
  • A poor night sleep due to illness, cough, etc.
