ANECA FCU Hosts Successful Meet and Greet with Rep. Johnson
On Monday, representatives from ANECA FCU and Bossier FCU joined LCUL staff in welcoming U.S. Representative Mike Johnson at ANECA FCU's Bossier City branch. The congressman voiced his support for regulatory relief and applauded credit unions for the important role they play in the communities they serve.

LCUL worked with ANECA FCU to distribute local media advisories prior to the event. Not only were local news channels on site, but residents of Shreveport stopped by for an opportunity to meet with Rep. Johnson.

"Our meeting with Rep. Johnson certainly strengthened our relationship with the congressman. We feel like we have a voice in Washington, D.C. and look forward to continuing our conversation," commented Angela Gervais, LCUL Director of Governmental Affairs.

Senator Kennedy Sends Louisiana CUs a Message
Last week, LCUL distributed a special issue of Pelican Politics highlighting an open letter that Senator John  Kennedy  sent to Louisiana credit unions. In his letter,  Sen. Kennedy states that he  will be doing all that I can to reduce the regulatory burden on  Louisiana's credit unions"

Click here to view the letter.

With several new faces elected to congress this past year, LCUL put a strong and aggressive advocacy strategy in place. We made it a top priority to promote the credit union story and share the challenges we face with every visit, phone call, and email.

Because of our continuous conversations, Louisiana Senator John Kennedy (R-LA)  echoed our concerns and recently introduced the Reforming Finance for Local Economies Act, exempting credit unions with less than $10 billion in assets from the regulatory burden imposed by Dodd-Frank.

Baton Rouge Golf Tournament Raises $39k for Children's Hospital
credit unions joined together to host the Baton Rouge Area Credit Union Charity Golf Tournament. The 14th annual tournament, held on October 23, 2017, at the Santa Maria Golf Course in Baton Rouge, LA, raised $39,763.89. This year boasted record participation with 36 teams registered.

Each year, this event is planned in the cooperative spirit of credit unions and is a testament to the industry's philosophy of 'people helping people.' Daniel Fields, Director of Children's Miracle Network Fundraising, shared his favorite part of the tournament:

"The collaboration of our Baton Rouge Area Credit Unions, especially our organizing committee, is what makes this event so special. In no other industry do you see competing organizations rallying together to support one cause like this group does for Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital. This was the largest attendance in the history of the tournament, and it reflects how passionate credit unions are in support of helping kids get the best healthcare close to home."

The second floor Pediatric Surgery Waiting Area in the new freestanding hospital will be named in honor of the Baton Rouge Area Credit Unions. Over the last six years, more than $200,000 has been raised for Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital through the annual golf tournament.
