Since it's founding in 1710 a lot has happened in North Carolina's second oldest town. Did you know that New Bern was the first city in America to celebrate George Washington's birthday? Not only did Washington visit New Bern he danced at Tryon Palace.
Even though New Bern is the second oldest town in North Carolina, it was home to the First State Capital, Tryon Palace. It was also the site where North Carolina's first postal service was established in 1790.
