We will enjoy a spectacular martial arts performance by the Ju Long Wushu Kung Fu School from South Windsor, complete with costumes and functioning light sabers! We'll also have a Star Wars photo booth, a Jedi obstacle course, and a chance to make a toy light saber to take home. More surprises, too! This is for ALL AGES! Come in costume if you like. ERIC SLOANE RARE BOOKS FOR SALE @ KML
A number of fine books by and about famed artist Eric Sloan
e, including FOR SPACIOUS SKIES (signed by Sloane) and AWARE: A Retrospective of the Life and Work of Eric Sloane by James W. Mauch (inscribed by the author) are currently for sale in the Library. Many of the books, which are displayed in the Library's glass cases, contain full page plates of Sloane's distinctive paintings. The books, which can be viewed during library hours or on Sundays with special permission, are part of the library's annual outdoor summer book sale, and all proceeds go to the library's operating budget.

Produced by The Lincoln Mint in Chicago 1870, and beautifully presented in a handsome slipcase, THE LIFE OF LINCOLN contains twenty-four 39-millimeter medals of .999 pure silver and oxidized bronze, accompanied by a book that illustrates  each phase of Lincoln's life as portrayed on the medals. The first printing was limited to 600 numbered copies; this one is 11. Needless to say, in mint condition!

Representatives from Health Pathfinder (healthpathfinder.org), along with local health insurance brokers and healthcare advocates will be in the Reading Room at the Library to answer questions and help you enroll in health insurance for 2018 as well as helping you find the right path to affordable prescription medicines, or assistance with medical bills. There is no charge, just show up!  If you have enrolled through Access Health CT previously, bring your username and password.  You will need social security numbers for your family, a recent paycheck, the first page of 2016 taxes and your current health insurance card. Saturday, December 16 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Henna Workshop. The Kent Memorial Library is happy to present a series of workshops on the ancient art of henna. Henna is an ancient form of temporary body art used by cultures across India, northern Africa and the Middle East. Join henna artist Elyse Sadtler on Saturdays from 4 to 5 p.m. for a series of five how-to henna classes to lear n how to draw beautiful henna designs on yourself, family and friends. Each class will focus on different design elements used to create beautiful henna art. Classes can be taken as a series or as individual learning experiences. Participants will receive their own henna cone to practice with during the class. Cost for each participant is $20 per class, or $85 for all five classes. Henna supplies will be available for sale after the class for those who wish to further their henna journey. Call the Library for more information.

KML IS HOST IN KENT GINGERBREAD FESTIVAL 2017
The Kent Chamber of Commerce Gingerbread Festival runs from December 1 - 31. As in the past, cash prizes will be awarded for Judge's Choice and Most Popular House. Every host will have maps available, showing where the  21 houses are being exhibited. Each house will be assigned a letter clue. This is part of a riddle that leads to the final destination, where the seekers receive a prize and can turn in their maps to register their votes. This year the Library's Gingerbread House was baked by Kent Center School After School Program. We think it is VERY SPECIAL!!!!!!!  
   
PARTY @ KML TO THANK THE VOLUNTEERS 
The Board of the Kent Library Association held an appreciation luncheon for all of our dedicated volunteers on Sunday, November 12. A delightful time was had by all and for those who couldn't be with us, thank you for your generosity. We could not stay afloat without your help throughout each year at the Book Sale, the Car Raffle, the Spring Gala, Adult & Children's Programs, Fundraising, Maintaining our Building, Circulation Desk and everything else our active Library does! You are all amazing! Thank you!   
 
   
CHAMPAGNE STROLL @ KML
The Annual Champagne Stroll sponsored by the Kent Chamber of Commerce was the Friday & Saturday following Thanksgiving. The Library was one of the stops serving Champagne and we estimate having around 900± visitors to take a sip . Above: the Library had manageable crowds between 4:00 & 8:00 p.m. both nights. Thank you for all those who lent a hand serving the champagne and greeting our strollers!

Holiday Boutique. This holiday season, make sure you stop in to check out our annual Holiday Boutique! We offer items such as Coffee Table Books, Children's Books, Scarves, Jewelry, Quilted Items, Cards, Glassware, Knick-knacks, Stocking Stuffers, Small Gifts, and Much More! All proceeds go to the Library. The boutique is open during regular Library hours. Monday - Friday: 10:00-5:30 and Saturday: 10:00-4:00 through December 31. 
 
Chess. Our chess boards and tables, inside and out are open to young and old, beginners to advanced. Team combinations are encouraged - for instance, grandparent and parent-child, co-workers, friends. All are welcome to use our chess equipment.
