Letter from the Artistic Director

Okay, breathe. Then let us help you satisfy everyone on your list,
with...wait for it...the gift of entertainment. We're only in the second quarter (to strain a sports metaphor) of our landmark 85th season, and the 2018 portion offers comedy, drama, and rousing music, all performed by your friends and neighbors.
But we also have some exciting attractions. O
n Friday the 10th, our adult acting class, under the direction of Dr. Deborah Coulter-Harris, presents its first public showcase. Admission for this event is free and open to the public. No tickets required. If you've ever thought about giving our acting or improv comedy classes a try, please visit www.toledorep.org.
Of course, we'd love to see you in our audience or in a class, but
have you ever thought about...a larger role? Virtually every task, both backstage and on, is performed by volunteers, and the size of your commitment is up to you. We would love to have you. For more information, visit our user-friendly web site, www.toledorep.org. Hit the tab near the top of our homepage marked "Volunteer." Or, just pick up the phone and call, 419-243-9277.
Come see what the amazing students from our Adult Acting Class, the "Craft of Acting" (Ages 17-97), have been up to for the past eight weeks as amateurs, semi-professionals, and professionals alike came together to improve their craft. In this class students learned the fundamental elements and methods of acting, stage movement, and creative expression, which included vocal and physical exercises, sensory awareness, improvisation, collaboration, organic instinctiveness, textual analysis, and scene performances. Students were introduced to varied methods that helped to create a character and articulate human emotions through voice, body, imagination, and experience. The showcase is open to the public, no tickets are required, but a suggested $3.00 donation is appreciated to help support the continued success of the Rep Ed Program.
Wine reception at 6:15 pm. For more information on all of our upcoming youth and adult classes, camps, and workshops, please visit our website at www.toledorep.org, call (419) 243-9277 or email [email protected]

TOLEDO CITY PAPER
TOLEDO REP'S IT CAME FROM MARS
LAUGHS AT "WAR OF THE WORLDS" PANDEMONIUM
What would you do if you thought the world was being invaded by aliens?
An event in American history caused people to believe that an actual invasion was happening: the infamous 1938 Orson Welles' broadcast of "War of the Worlds" by H.G. Wells caused a mild panic as people truly thought aliens were ravaging the countryside. The panic caused by that radio play is at the center of a new production at The Toledo Repertoire Theater.
It Came From Mars is a tongue-in-cheek tale of five radio professionals who, after listening to the dramatic reading, barricade themselves in their station, believing it's real. How will they survive the hoax, and what will they find out about each other?
Written in 2009 by playwright Joseph Zettelmaier, a Michigan native, this production's director, Aggie Alt, has worked in theater around the country from Colorado to California, received her master's degree from BGSU, and has previously directed at the Toledo Rep. While she hadn't seen the play before, she appreciates that "it's a fun piece with some great characters, and it doesn't hurt that the playwright is somewhat local."
Being local is one of the reasons The Rep chose to put on the play. Dave DeChristopher, artistic director for The Toledo Rep, explained that "Zettelmaier is well-known to theatre's in Southeastern Michigan, where he lives and his work is regularly done." The time of year also played a part in the decision: "We chose this slot in our theatre season because it's closest to the date of the actual 'War of the Worlds' broadcast (October 30, 1938)."

Toledo Blade
'Mars' Calling
The story, set in New York in the 1930s, centers on actors in a radio show, "Farlowe's Mystery Theatre Hour," whose rehearsal is interrupted by an announcement that Martians have arrived in the city. The terrified actors barricade themselves in the studio, and before long the characters, which include a down-on-his-luck director and his ex, a scatterbrained actress, a sound effects expert, and a wannabe
war hero, fall into slapstick-style chaos.

Toledo Paranormal Group Investigates Local Haunts
Do you believe in ghosts?
There are people who claim to have heard noises or seen apparitions they simply can't explain, and there are skeptics who will deny the existence of spirits no matter how convincing a story sounds.
Then there are the select few who make it their mission - passion even - to capture concrete evidence of paranormal activity on videos, photographs, or audio recordings. Such was the case for local ghost hunting group Haunted Toledo on a recent October night at the Toledo Repertoire Theater.
"What's our mission tonight?" asked Christopher Tillman, founder of Haunted Toledo, while standing on the step to his team's RV camper.
"To find a ghost!" answered team member Sarah Chelten, standing in the theater's parking lot. As the sun was setting and the sky grew darker, the group formed a circle and said a prayer, asking God for protection before the start of the investigation. Ironically, the gusts of wind became stronger, and it started to rain as the prayer came to an end. A group member's watch read 8:45 p.m., and the night sky meant it was time to start the ghost hunt inside the dark theater.
Haunted Toledo Investigates The Rep!
On October 7th and 27th, Haunted Toledo underwent two 9 hour long ghost hunts at the Toledo Rep! They invested the main theatre and our rehearsal space, the Brown Building, to see what paranormal activity was lurking inside!
On October 27th, Haunted Toledo gave ghost hunt tours of the theatre to over 40 people. Participants, some sporting their own ghost hunting equipment, spent 3 hours investing the paranormal. Haunted Toledo filmed this event for their Docu-series!
Legends of the Toledo Repertoire Theatre include all friendly spirits such as a woman in white haunting the attic, a child who is often seen in the upstairs turret windows, and a man that haunts the back of the theatre and concession area who enjoys playing pranks on the actors and staff.
All proceeds from the ghost hunt tours on October 27th went to the Toledo Repertoire Theatre, so we want to thank Haunted Toledo again for their support of our theatre!
