A Prayer for those in the Armed Forces of our Country

Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care and
keeping
all the men and women of our armed forces at home
and abroad. Defend them day by day with your heavenly grace;
strengthen them in their trials and temptations;
give
them courage to face the perils which beset them;
and grant
them a sense of your abiding presence
wherever they may be;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

November 18 | Community Building Dinners
Parishioners Joanne and Powell Hutton, who live off Spout Run in North Arlington, will host a potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 18, for parishioners interested in an evening of informal fun and fellowship. Please contact Joanne to RSVP ( 703 282-4964) and let her know what you might bring. All are welcome, and if you can come, the Huttons will provide final directions to their home.

Given their somewhat limited space, they will be able to accommodate only the first 25 or so individuals, but they hope that will include you.
Continuing with St. John's community building initiative, Ann and John Gardner will be hosting a dinner at their home in McLean, on Saturday, November 18 at 6:30 p.m. Along with their co-hosts Mary and Carl Raether and Elizabeth and Chris Gardner, they would be delighted to have our St. John's Church parishioners join them for "Fellowship, Fun, and Food." Please RSVP to Ann Gardner no later than November 16.
Renovation of the Parish House will begin soon, and with it the loss of meeting space and venue for our Sunday Parish Lunches and other parish life events. To continue and expand on our fellowship opportunities, we are organizing activities by neighborhood and/or zip code. These events will be potluck suppers, brunches, and cocktail parties in the homes of parishioners, or happy hours at local establishments, picnics, or whatever our creativity leads to.  If you are interested in participating by hosting or organizing an event, please contact Holly Sukenik.
Refugee Support Projects
The Vestry of St. John's Church, Lafayette Square recognizes our Christian obligation to welcome strangers to our community with hospitality and respect. As followers of Christ, we are committed to showing compassion, mercy, and love to our neighbors of all religions, knowing that every person reflects the image of God and deserves to be treated with dignity. Parish House Renovation

Originally, work was scheduled to begin on or around September 1. Due to permitting issues with the District's Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, that start date has been pushed back to a date in the fall. We are working through a difficult permitting process, facing a rejection and reapplying for correct permits. We hope to have this situation rectified as soon as possible.

As we move through this renovation process, we have created a dedicated page on our website to update the St. John's community. This page will have the most up-to-date information from the Rev. Dr. Luis León, Hayden Bryan, Executive Director for Operations, and the Vestry regarding the renovation, including timeline, details for Sunday worship, and more. You are encouraged to visit the page often, and bookmark it on your computer. Watch for updates in our weekly bulletin and our eNewsletter, the Word.
