Caring for the smallest, most vulnerable and, in many cases, non-verbal patients is a calling for
Dr. Ronik Kanani. "One of the biggest reasons I took the role as Chief of Paediatrics was to be able to provide the best experience and optimal care for our patients and their families closer to home."
Working with a great interdisciplinary team whose members are always looking to enhance the care they provide, Dr. Kanani has built new partnerships, expanded the level of care NYGH offers, and advanced research and education.

ARCS partnership provides patients with best mental health care
Many people experiencing a mental health crisis turn to an emergency department (ED) for help. Treating mental health issues, however, often requires more than a hospital ED visit. To better integrate hospital and community services, North York General Hospital is part of the Access to Resources and Community Services (ARCS) program.
"Our focus in the ED is to treat the immediate crisis at hand, says Sandy Marangos, Director of Emergency Services and Mental Health. "This partnership really helps us ensure that patients receive prompt high-quality care and follow-up in their community through a multidisciplinary approach. It also decreases their need to return to the ED."
For several years our staff, physicians and volunteers have supported life-changing community outreach programs through the United Way.
"We care about keeping the community where we live and work strong and vibrant," says Dr. Donna McRitchie, Vice President of Medical and Academic Affairs, and Executive Sponsor of the North York General Hospital United Way Campaign 2017.
The MedsCheck program let's you book a free annual discussion with one of our pharmacists at North York General Hospital's Pharmacy.
"Pharmacists help patients understand drug names, strengths, adverse effects, usage instructions, and how to benefit the most from their prescription medications," says Director of PharmacyEdith Rolko. "This service is available to patients taking three or more prescription medications for chronic conditions."
