Can You Keep Up With Us?

Huskies run pretty fast and need plenty of stamina! Just look at the upcoming ten days...

Tomorrow evening we invite you all to campus to share in the celebration of ribbon-cutting and formally opening of our six new classroom spaces.

On Tuesday afternoon we invite any interested parent to a preview of our presentation to students later in the week on gender identity.

Next Saturday morning we offer another opportunity for community service in our Palos Verdes Blue Butterfly Preserve. Why not come along as a family to help in and learn about this unique environmentally-protected space we are nurturing on our campus?

And on Tuesday, November 21, right before Thanksgiving, we invite grandparents and adult friends to visit campus for the morning and share in what we do inside and outside the classroom.

Phew. The Iditarod has nothing on us!

Open House For Six New Classrooms

6:00 p.m. | MPR

Rolling Hills Prep and Renaissance Schools are excited to unveil six new Arts and English classrooms to the Husky Community. These classrooms are a major milestone for  Our Vision: The Next Ten Years, and one of the largest achievements to occur during Phase I.

The evening will begin with a presentation in the Multi Purpose Room (MPR), followed by a ribbon cutting for the new Arts and English classrooms. After the opening, tours of the new classrooms will be provided.

Light refreshments and snacks will be served and a live student band will provide additional entertainment.

Government
and Economics
Summer Class

In order to increase flexibility during senior year scheduling, Rolling Hills Prep and Renaissance are offering Government and Economics, a requirement for seniors, over Summer. A student taking the course would then have the ability to take an additional elective class during senior year.

Interested students are required to fill out a brief form that must be returned by Monday, November 20. Both the form and more information can be found by clicking the button below.

Discussing Gender Identity at RHP and Renaissance

Tuesday, November 14th, 2017 from 4:30-5:30pm
As a precursor to November 16th's presentation to students, "Gender Identity and Expression," we offer a preview and an opportunity for questions and discussion for parents by  Dr. Marvin Belzer, Director, Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine, Keck USC School of Medicine.

Please join us for an informational event where Dr. Belzer will review the latest research in youth gender identity and expression, discuss how physicians and therapists support youth and their families, and provide information to assist parents to discuss these issues with their children.

We have become aware that some parents may wish their children to opt out of the student presentation for various reasons, an option we discourage but are nevertheless glad to provide. Some parents may believe that such conversations should be held ONLY between parent and child, and we would respect that viewpoint. Please let School Counselor Emilie Padua-Douglas know if you wish to exercise this option and please know that any children who are held out will be treated with the respect you have come to expect from our schools.

Click below to RSVP by Sunday, November 12, 2017.

Thank You For Supporting Our Schools With a Gift to
The Husky Fund

Thank you to all families who have already made gifts to The Husky Fund. Our target this year is 100% parent participation, in 100 days, to reach our goal of $750,000.

Determining the size of your family's gift is a personal decision; amounts typically vary from $25.00 to more than $25,000.00. In a perfect world, if every family contributed $2,600.00 for each student they have enrolled, we would make our goal. In reality, we know that financial circumstances differ widely and some families will give more while others give less. For additional guidance on this matter, we invite you to review the suggested giving levels detailed on our website and on the remittance envelope you received in your Husky Fund packet.

Please keep in mind that while tuition is not tax-deductible, gifts to The Husky Fund are. When it comes to prioritizing your year-end donations, we urge you to make your children and their education the greatest recipients of your philanthropic giving. Your support of our schools' missions is truly appreciated.

Tri Tran

"'Perspective,' was one of the first things he [Mr. Flamini] taught me. Despite his effort to stress the importance of this word, its meaning was as vague as America itself. To me, at that time, it was merely a new vocabulary word that I needed to learn. As I unraveled America, I realized that perspective shows itself in every aspect of life here. It was on the news. It scared me when I first watched news correspondents argue so fearfully about a political matter. It scared me even more when I listened to my classmates argue about the same thing in my US History class. I started to apply perspective in my life. I tried to look at my life's problems through a more positive lens. Oh, I screwed up a test, but look on the bright side, there will always be a test correction."

Dr. Taurozzi's chemistry class spent the week conducting experiments and observing how different materials react to high temperatures.

Mrs. Hall worked outside with her American Sign Language students using immersive communication methods.

Students had to challenge Mr. Maher to thumb war competitions for their 10th grade scavenger hunt.
