ANNOUNCEMENTS
Results from the Sexual Assault Climate Survey administered last spring will be presented during a town hall on Wednesday, November 15 from 7-8:30 p.m. in Olin 102. Corey Landstrom, vice president and dean for Student Life and Matt Bills, Title IX Coordinator will share the results and facilitate dialogue regarding the results and their implications.
 
Cancelled: The Walmart Shopping Shuttle that was scheduled for Saturday, November 11, has been cancelled.  Information for future November dates will be in the Diversity Weekly email and in the Bulletin. We apologize for any inconvenience.   
 
Would you like to enhance your leadership and outdoor skills? Become a leader for the 2018 Immersion Program! Applications are now being accepted for all current freshmen-junior student leaders. The Immersion experiences give incoming Luther students the opportunity to engage in experiential learning, reflect on the natural environment, and share in fellowship with current Luther students. Applications are due December 1. Read more on the Immersion Program website , or contact Emily Neal with questions.
 
The Asian Studies program is sponsoring a brown bag lunch at noon on Thursday, November 16, in the Mott Room. Cade Bolen, Luther class of 2017, will talk about the importance of Asian studies and Sukeji Jeffrey, Luther class of 2017, and Tatyana Saranina, Luther senior, will discuss the practice of Chinese medicine in Japan.
 
Uncle Tom," the "Mammy" and the "pickaninnies" are all racial stereotypes commonly used from the pre-Civil War era until the start of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s. The Emmy-winning documentary "Ethnic Notions" examines these and more anti-Black stereotypes that permeated popular culture and were perpetuated by mass media. The Diversity Center is sponsoring a showing of the documentary at 7 p.m. Sunday, November 12, in the Dahl Centennial Union, Mott- Borlaug Room. Novian Whitsitt will facilitate a discussion following the screening.
 
The Luther College Center for Sustainable Communities is hosting the documentary screening of "Waking the Sleeping Giant: The Making of a Political Revolution" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 15, in Valders Hall of Science, Room 206.
 
Price Fishback, the Thomas R. Brown professor of economics at the University of Arizona, will present the annual Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar lecture on "The Long Term Trends in Social Welfare Spending in the United States and Nordic Counties" at 7 p.m. Thursday, November 16, in Valders Hall of Science Room 206.
 
Luther College Chamber Orchestra will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, November 16, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. Chamber Orchestra will perform Beethoven's Symphony No. 8 in F major, Op. 93. Accompanied by Luther Instructor Miko Kominami on piano, the ensemble will also perform Mozart's Piano Concerto in C major, KV 467.
 
Alfredo Alonso Estenoz, Associate Professor of Spanish, has released his new book  Borges En Cuba to the Book Shop. Stop in and pick up a copy today and congratulate him on the endeavor.
 
New Autographed Book -- Did you miss the lecture and book signing by Ryan Sallans? He signed a few copies of his book, Second Son, so you would not miss out.Ryan also left us a few copies of What is Normal Anyway, by Morgan Boecher.
 
Advent Calendars -- Advent calendars are in stock in the Book Shop. Supplies are limited so come quickly.

Luther College will be celebrating International Education Week with several events, co-sponsored by Student Senate and the Center for Global Learning. Tuesday, November 14, is a screening of The White Helmets, followed by a discussion panel with faculty and students at 7 p.m. in Valders 206. Thursday, November 16, is the Projects for Peace presentations at 7 p.m. in Mott Room. Saturday, November 18 is World Cup Soccer at 1 p.m. in the Regents Center. Saturday night is the global potluck at 6 p.m. in Farewell Lounge. 

RERUNS
Center Stage Series presents Thomanerchor Leipzig: St.Thomas Boys' Choir Saturday, November 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Center for Faith and Life, Main Hall. Don't miss the rare opportunity to hear the choir J.S. Bach himself directed. Established in 1212, the all-boys choir is rich in it's 800 years of musical tradition and continues to be a cultural influence worldwide. Tickets are free with CAF at the Ticket Office or tickets.luther.edu
 
Luther alumni and professional pianists Jordan Buchholtz and Charles Hoeft will co-headline the Dorian keyboard guest recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, November 10, in the Noble Recital Hall of Jenson-Noble Hall of Music.   
 
The Dorian Keyboard Festival will showcase the top performers of the festival in a recital at 5 p.m. Saturday, November 11, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. The recital, given by the top Keyboard Festival participants, will feature the artists' repertoire from the festival.   
 
The Luther College Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Daniel Baldwin, will present their fall concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, November 12, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. The program features "The Moldau" by BedÅ™ich Smetana, then William Grant Still's "Ennanga" with a harp solo performed by Rachel Brandwein, adjunct faculty in music. The concert concludes with Symphony No. 5 in E minor Op. 64 by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.  
 
The International Students and Allies Association (ISAA) will be showing the Academy Award-winning documentary 'The White Helmets' on November 14 at 7 p.m., Valders 206.
The documentary will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Professors Todd Green, Pedro dos Santos and a few students. Join us as we engage in discussion on Syria, international politics and change. There will be snacks and refreshments!

Interested in a year of service after graduation? Take a break on  Monday, November 13, from 2-3 p.m. to meet with Lutheran Volunteer Corps (LVC) representatives. Elizabeth Flomo and her colleague will be on campus from Sunday, November 12 to Monday, November 13 and are very excited to speak with Luther people about service in other parts of the world! The ELCA LIFE in Service tour is coming to Luther on Sunday, November 12. The Luther College Music Department will host a general student recital at 9:40 a.m. Tuesday, November 14, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson Noble Hall of Music. This event features various Luther performers, ensembles and soloists. Students are selected to perform by an application process. 
 
Children's Bargain Book Sale -- November 6-17 stop in the Book for our annual sale of children's book ranging from $1-$6. This is a great way to start your holiday shopping and future teachers this is a great way to start your own library for your future students. The earlier you stop in the better the chance to find your perfect book.
 
Signed Books -- If you could not attend the Brad Gregory book signing for, Rebel in the Ranks, stop in the Book Shop we still have a few signed copies left.
 
Luther College's Varsity Band and Wind and Percussion Ensemble will perform their fall repertoire at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 14, in the Center for Faith and Life, Main Hall. Varsity Band will play "A Festival Prelude", "A Dream of Coming Home" and "Hosts of Freedom". In Wind and Percussion Ensemble's portion of the concert, listen to standards of wind ensemble literature including, "Let the Amen Sound", "The Seal Lullaby", "Divertimento, Op. 42" and "El Abanico".
