Perhaps we could consider every Sunday Stewardship Sunday. However, this Sunday, November 12, is sometimes called "pledge Sunday". Those on the Finance Team are hoping you will either have your card in or bring it to church on the 12th. The service will be concluded with an act of dedication for your faithfulness and your stewardship.
Mentioning the word "faithfulness" I remember a series of questions.
- If your car starts one out of four times would you call it faithful?
- If your TV works 60% of the time would you consider it faithful?
- If your newspaper was delivered every other day, would you call your carrier faithful?
- If your hot water heater greeted you with cold water three mornings weekly, would it be faithful?
- If you failed to come to work five days a month would your employer consider you faithful?
- If you missed two house payments a year would your bank say, "Well, 10 of 12 isn't bad."
- If you attend once or twice a month and gave occasionally, would you say you're faithful?
I hope you're faithful in attendance and giving this Sunday. The sermon is "A Triple Action Plan" and the text is MT 28:16 - 20.
God is looking for YOU!
Russell

WHAT THE CHURCH MEANS TO US
|
JIM AND KAREN AMENT
I was raised a Presbyterian, and my wife Karen, was raised an American Baptist, a distinction she likes to make compared to Southern Baptist. After marriage in 1970, we looked for a church in the town of our first home, Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and we liked the Methodist church there, where we became active members. It was a good compromise to our shared Protestant roots.
|
We moved seven times in the first thirteen years of our marriage, and found our place of worship to be Methodist in every place but one, where we attended, but never joined a Congregational church. We lived in Riverside, California on two separate corporate moves for twenty-five years, and enjoyed an active life in a large downtown Methodist church of Spanish architecture, housing a massive Tracker pipe organ. When we moved to Evergreen in late 2005, joining and supporting UMCE was a given. Our commitment to church is because we know we need it. We've had our minor gaps in attendance over the years, but we both recognize that we're missing something important in our lives when we don't participate-worship with a community of Christian friends, and absorbing the messages of good preaching. We learn from these experiences, and hopefully become more mature as Christians in the process. God bless UMCE.
