Join United Way of York County on #GivingTuesday, November 28th, in the fight against homelessness by supporting the
Men's Warming Center.
The mission of the
Men's Warming Center is to offer safe shelter, a warm meal, and fellowship to homeless men during the coldest months of the year. Being the only men's emergency, winter shelter in our area, the Men's Warming Center has been a community staple for York County since 2007.
Bethel United Methodist Church graciously serves as the host site for the shelter, with community volunteers to help the shelter run smoothly. A total of 114 different men were provided winter shelter during November 2016 through March 2017. Each night, the men receive a meal and are provided a warm bed to sleep in. They are also supplied basic necessities; such as, blankets, sleeping mats, coats, socks, gloves and other weather appropriate attire. Additionally, case management and follow-up care are provided to address long-term needs as space becomes available in appropriate programs in our community.
The number of homeless individuals in York County is at an all-time high, while unfortunately, there are few available shelters. With the approaching winter months and declining temperatures, it's vital that the Men's Warming Center remains open, so that these less-fortunate individuals are able to have a safe place to keep warm.
