4th and 5th Graders Take Learning Outside of the Classroom
5th Graders Venture to Catalina
In late October, Historic Anaheim 5th grade students embarked on an adventure to Fox Landing on Catalina Island. For their three-day, two-night stay, our students learned all about ocean life. During their snorkeling session and dissection lab, the students were able to observe many sea creatures that they have been studying in science class. They also participated in team-building activities, such as using high and low ropes, hiking, and kayaking. It was a great trip and a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the students.

4th Graders Learn about Early California Life
Last week, our 4th grade students set off for the Lazy W Ranch, which included a detour to Mission San Juan Capistrano. While at the mission, students caught a glimpse into the daily life of early California settlers. Highlights of the mission included the Serra Chapel and the Ruins of the Great Stone Church. Students learned about four different cultural periods that make up California's history: Native American, Spanish Settlement, Mexican Rancho, and the Gold Rush. During the program, they worked together with classmates to build a Native American brush shelter, made adobe bricks, explored Native American plant uses, learned how to grind corn to make tortillas, and panned for gold. All of the students had a fun time, and the 4th graders are looking forward to their Sacramento trip in March.
News & Announcements
Operation Candy Results
Our students showed up in full force in support of Operation Candy! Schoolwide, the students brought in 717 pounds of candy that we will be sending to our troops overseas.

Winners of the pizza party for filling their boxes first were Mrs. Luckham's class and Mrs. Wagner's class. Both classes enjoyed pizza parties for their winning efforts. Additionally, for collecting the most candy ---   more than 100 pounds ---   Mrs. Bivens' class won a $100 gift card for school supplies. Thank you for all of your support in helping our troops!

Thanksgiving Feast
Next Friday, our preschool through 6th grade students will have their annual Thanksgiving feast. Additionally, we would like to invite all of our Fairmont families to join us in this yearly celebration.

Please complete the appropriate  preschool or elementary order form. All meal tickets must be purchased by Wednesday, November 15. Tickets will be sent home on Thursday, November 9. Parents who will be attending the feast with their children will need to meet them at their classrooms at the times below.

Thanksgiving Meal Project
For the next community outreach program, the FPA will be supporting the City of Anaheim in its efforts to provide Thanksgiving meals to those families in Anaheim that may not be able to have their own holiday meals. Please be on the lookout for a flyer from your child's homeroom teacher with the items that your child has been asked to provide.

If you are interested in completing an entire box from your family, please view the full list of items needed for the box. All items are due back to campus by Thursday, November 16.

3rd and 4th Grade Winter Concert
Please stop by on Wednesday, November 15, to see our 3rd and 4th grade students perform "The Nutcracker" and "The Reindeer Games" as part of their annual winter concert. It's always a great kickoff to the holiday season! Performances will be at 9:00 am and 6:00 pm.

Junior High Ice Skating
The junior high students will have a fun day of ice skating on Friday, November 17. If your child is interested in attending, complete the required flyer and permission slip, and return them by Wednesday, November 15.

Original Works Student Art Fundraiser
We are excited to announce that we will be partnering with Original Works for a winter art fundraiser! This year, everything is online. Through the Original Works program, students created original pieces of artwork that you can have reproduced onto a variety of high-quality products, including magnets, mugs, T-shirts, and nearly two dozen other products.

Your Original Works family order forms should be coming home soon with your child's artwork and special code on it. All ordering will be completed online. The company has scanned the original artwork from each student, and each student has a special image title code and a student code that will be needed during the ordering process.

The directions are below and will be on the paperwork you will receive, as well.
  1. Go to www.originalworks.com.
  2. Click on Gallery on the navigation bar
  3. Enter the school code: Fps (F must be capitalized).
  4. In the Title box, enter the image title from the paperwork given to each student.
  5. Click on your child's artwork image, and view it on more than 30 products.
  6. Order by clicking on the image of the products you would like. Input the student code from the order form, and you will be able to complete the order process.
  7. All orders are completed online and must be submitted by Monday, November 20, 2017.

Marketing Students Receive Inspirational Reminder from Guest Speaker
Fairmont Prep marketing students had the privilege of hearing from special guest speaker Ziad Batal, CEO and co-founder of the inspirational clothing brand TICDA, which stands for "Today I Can Do Anything."

Batal discussed how his brand and marketing strategies were able to take TICDA to the next level as well as some of his other business ventures. Our International Business Program (IBP) students received TICDA wristbands and were inspired and reminded that, today, they can do anything!
