Northbay Business Journal's Nonprofit Leadership Awards Honors Julie Burford

Julie Burford, who founded our Marin County program, was recently honored at the Northbay Business Journal's fifth annual Nonprofit Leadership Awards. The honorees include a plethora of volunteers and members of the community who have performed a great service for their community. Many have changed lives and inspired those around them to enact change in their communities.

Julie's volunteer service to the Marin community has been huge. Along with Anne Wathen, another key Ceres Marin volunteer, Julie and her team delivered more than 50,000 meals in their first 5 years.

This is what she had to say about her role:

What achievement are you most proud of?
Having accepted the challenge to launch a new non-profit program in Marin, initially as an independent entity, and with the help of Ann Wathen, an amazing volunteer partner, growing the Marin program successfully over five years, fully funding an annual budget of up to $200,000 by 2015. I had no background in the non-profit world but love a good challenge, and I am committed to the work of changing the foodscape in my small corner of the world and helping young people to understand how good food connects people and supports life.
