Connect With Pacifica This Week
Greetings!

Each Monday morning, City Hall staff meet briefly to (1) connect as humans and colleagues by sharing personal stories from the weekend and to (2) coordinate as professionals the busy week ahead. This last Monday, Nov. 6th, was different because we reflected on the tragic shooting incident which occurred in Texas, not to mention other recent ones, and because one of our most upbeat and passionate-for-her-profession team members, Human Resources Analyst Christina Gendreau, was uncharacteristically absent. Shortly after the meeting we learned that Christina had tragically passed away over the weekend at her home in Hayward. The loss of Christina is deeply saddening to the City of Pacifica employee family and is a huge loss to Pacifica generally. You see, the Human Resources function within organizations is one of the most important, but largely unheralded, jobs. It focuses on supporting the humans that are the engine of the services the City provides. Christina was outstanding in her work and had recently been selected and participated in an exclusive Emerging Leaders Retreat through the Northern CA Chapter of the International Public Management Association for Human Resources. She will be deeply missed here in Pacifica. Because of the personal stories shared by Christina about how involved she was in her community, we know this is a huge loss to her community also. And, of course, this is a huge loss to her husband, family, and personal friends.

The tragic loss of Christina, the tragic loss of life in recent mass shootings, spurs us to make sure we “Connect with Each Other” as we also “Connect with Pacifica.” Get to know one another as humans, because you never know what changes tomorrow may bring, and you’ll be thankful to have smiles and positive interactions to remember, should those interactions no longer be possible!

This week we also honor the veterans who have served our country as we officially observe Veteran’s Day on Friday, November 10. In honor of Veteran’s Day and Pacifica celebrating 60 years of incorporation this month, through local writer Jean Bartlett and with her permission I’d like to share the story on Cal Hinton, a veteran, longtime Pacifican and former Pacifica Fire Chief which was originally published in the Pacifica Tribune in November 2016:    Travels through war and peace with former Pacifica fire chief

Taking the time to get to know the stories of those around us builds connection and appreciation for what we each have to contribute to our community. Thank you for taking time to Connect with Each Other! Please let me know if you have comments or questions, and  thank you  for wanting to  Connect with Pacifica !

Sincerely,
KEVIN WOODHOUSE
City Manager

Please help by cleaning up after your pet and keep the storm drains free of other harmful debris. For additional information please see the City's web page or the County's Water Pollution Prevention web page
