Dia de los Muertos tradition showcases student artwork |
The 12th annual Adolescent Parent Program Dia de los Muertos celebration was held on Nov. 2 at Walnutwood High.
Students created moving expressions through folk art, written tributes, food and drink dedicated to those they've loved and lost.
Many Rancho Cordova community members came out for the event, as well as school board members and Folsom Cordova's Superintendent Dr. Sarah Koligian.

Community Readers Program wins award for helping students succeed |
Folsom Cordova's Community Readers program (

) was honored last month for program improvements that have increased student success rates and strengthened local partnerships.
Community Readers, a volunteer tutoring program that helps students struggling to read, received a 2017 Influence Award from the Public Relations Society of America California Capital Chapter, the Sacramento region's leading organization of public relations and communication professionals. Judges noted several measureable outcomes from a strategic overhaul of the program in 2016-17, including:

Average percentage increase in student assessments was 41%

By spring 2017 the program established or grew strategic community partnerships by 5 using the program as a leverage point

Community Readers grew its volunteer base by 29
-
Volunteers and school staff members reported high levels of satisfaction in the program
The award was accepted by Angela Griffin Ankhelyi, FCUSD's Community Outreach Coordinator, during an Oct. 26 ceremony at the California Museum.

The Greater Folsom Partnership's latest video called Folsom Focus gives an inside look of the FHS Bulldog's powerhouse Football Program.
The informational series features Journalist Cristina Mendonsa, as she reports on some of Folsom's greatest highlights.
Mendonsa speaks with Coach Kris Richardson about his 23 years of coaching the Folsom High Bulldogs football team, how he shapes the characters of the young men he coaches, safety precautions regarding concussions, social issues and what has led to their team's success.

Latest bargaining updates from FCUSD employee groups |
Folsom Cordova bargaining teams met last week during regularly scheduled sessions with its two employee organizations that represent teachers and support staff.
California School Employees Association (CSEA) Chapter #528 (Comprehensive and Transportation Units)which represent about 1,000 employees, bus drivers, food service workers, maintenance staff and other non-teaching positions.

Help homeless students: Donate to Operation Warm!
FCUSD's Homeless Student Services is partnering with Operation Warm to provide warm jackets to students that are currently experiencing homelessness.
For every $100 donated, five students will receive a new warm coat made by Operation Warm.

Jazz Music Students to Perform at
22nd Annual Crab Feed and Auction
The award-winning Folsom High School Jazz Bands and Choir will perform at the
22nd Annual Folsom Crab Feed and Auction on
Friday, Nov. 17 from 5:30-10 p.m. at the Folsom Community Center.
Live auction, raffle, and our popular Wall of Wine will be held throughout the evening featuring many exciting items including vacation getaways and entertainment packages.
Tickets for the evening of live jazz music, a delicious crab dinner and the auction and raffle can be purchased online.
All proceeds from this event benefit Folsom High School's award-winning music program.
