November 2017

Thank you to all who joined us last Sunday for the special Reformation service celebrating the 500th Anniversary of the Lutheran Church. We enjoyed a German fare lunch afterwards, including some bratwurst prepared by these amazing chefs!

Christmas for Moore

Register to Adopt a family for Christmas
Brighten the Christmas holiday for those in need in our community through the annual Christmas for Moore program, a community-wide effort that provides Christmas gifts and a food basket for families in need in our area.

You will receive the name and gift suggestions for your adopted family or individual by November 26 or before depending when your form is turned in.

Help us fill food baskets  through  Christmas for Moore!

The Social Ministry's Annual Food Drive has begun. The food we collect together will be used to provide Christmas dinner for 30 families which OSLC has "adopted" through Christmas for Moore.

Here are the items needed:
  • Canned fruit of any kind
  • Canned green beans, corn and peas
  • Canned sweet potatoes
  • Instant mashed potatoes
  • Cranberry sauce
  • 46 oz. canned fruit juices
  • Box Cereal
  • Powdered milk
  • Dessert (such as instant pudding, cake mixes, or boxed cookies)
Thank you for picking up the items you can, together we will fill these Christmas baskets!  You may leave your donations in the food chest by the Fellowship Hall any time through Wednesday, December 13.

"Kenny and I would like to thank all those who came to our aid on Sunday, September 24 when Kenny had a mis-step at the altar.
Your care and concern was greatly appreciated.  We would like to thank our "house" doctor, Peter Benson, who made Kenny's
entrance to the EMS ambulance and hospital emergency ward much smoother.  Also, thank you to Pastor Linn, Tom Adams, Bill
Blake and Sean Ramirez.  Thank you to all who called to see how Kenny was doing - OK, by the way.  All your prayers were also
greatly appreciated."  - Dottie Sparke

Youth News

Kids on Fire

This month, our 3rd-5th grade youth group got a new name.  They are now"Kids on Fire!" (If you see a 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade youth at church - ask them how they came up with their group name.  Hint: It has something to do with fire ants!)

We had a blas t completing a scavenger hunt that took us throughout the church.  We used Bible verses as clues for each location, and at each spot, the kid s had a group challenge to complete. They rocked all of them, and we loved to see the kids work together and  encourage each other.  This month "Kids on Fire" will meet on  November 12  from  2 - 4 pm  at the church for another fun afternoon together!

Ropes Course Adventures

Our high school youth group met on October 15th and headed down to Camp Agape to do their low ropes challenge course. Evan Clayton who is one of our
youth advisors was also a camp counselor at Agape for several summers, and he got us "in" for a fun afternoon at camp.  Completing the course with a small group was definitely a challenge, but our high school kids communicated their way through each obstacle.  It turns out - communication with each other and with God is a pretty important thing for growing a healthy youth group!

This month, the high school youth will meet on  November 5 to see the new Thor movie and have a discussion afterwards, and they will also meet on November 19 for a service project.  More information will be coming soon over email, and for any questions, please contact Pastor Meghan.

Please mark your calendars for our Chick-fil-A Spirit Nights. The preschool received $100 from the September Spirit Night. What an easy way to support our preschool. All you have to do is feed the family and the preschool receives a portion! A big thank you to all of you that came!

Tuesday, November 21st anytime from 5pm-7pm
Tuesday, December 19th anytime from 5pm-7pm

A Note from our Preschool Board

It's already November, and Our Saviour Preschool has a lot to be thankful for:
  • Thank you to Pastor Larry Wolff for leading chapel for our littlest Lutherans every Tuesday morning.
  • Thank you to Jim Peeples for mowing the grass on the preschool playground all year long.
  • Thank you to the Ramirez family for your generous donation of a drying rack for our artwork.

We would like to invite the congregation to a family dinner and Christmas Program on Sunday, December 10 at 5 pm.  Please join us for dinner and fellowship, and the Christmas story portrayed by preschoolers!  You don't want to miss these cute shepherds, angels, stable animals, and Wise Men.

Dinner will be catered and donations will be accepted as we try to raise money to send our teachers to a professional development workshop on handwriting and letter formation - skills that we feel are very important to help our little ones get ready for kindergarten.

Registration for 2018-2019 begins in December!  Church members can register their children online at  www.oursaviourpreschool.com starting on  December 25.

Our wish list:
  • Professional Development Workshop on Handwriting ($385 per teacher)
  • Easel ($250)
  • Classroom rug ($400)
  • Play Table and Chairs ($200)
  • Play kitchen ($300)
  • Classroom tables ($200)
We would be very thankful for your donations and prayers! We are so thankful for the recent donation of a drying rack.
