Over 100,000 viewers tuned into the US Open Netball Championships

Netball America's US Open Netball ChampionshipsTM made it to the top of the Facebook Live Leaderboard for having the most viewers tuned into an event at any one time!
What an achievement and from the messages we've been receiving we have the global community talking about our event. Even though we had 4 courts playing at once, we could only stream the action from Center Court 1. Be sure to watch the
replay of the action, including Opening and Closing ceremonies and share with your family and friends. I encourage all our teachers to watch and learn from these games.
The main viewers came from California, Texas and Florida. Stay tuned to the
USOpenNetball Facebook page as we release more information about the event.

We brought the spirit of New Orleans to the Netball, with a Mardi Gras parade led by a brass band to lead in the finalists, a visit by the big headed Jester and a Reveler, along with a performance by Michael Jackson. We were honored to have US Marines from New Orleans bring the flags in for the opening ceremonies and performances by American Idol finalist Carly Smithson to sing the national anthem and USA University athlete Kayla Jordan wowed everyone with her Adele performance.

The US Open is the most prestigious and largest Netball event in the Americas and it now garnishes a lot of support from the global community. We were honored to have special guests Vicki Wilson OAM who worked with athletes and coaches, Kate Agnew from Netball New Zealand who shared with us global insight and was truly impressed with our event as well as Bill and Carol Alexander who worked with the umpires over a period of 3 days to ensure our umpire standards match those of the top netball nations.

UMPIRE OF THE TOURNAMENT AWARD - JEFF PERSSON
Congratulations to Jeff Persson from the Nashville Kangaroos for receiving the Umpire of the Tournament Award. Jeff is the 1st ever American male umpire to join the national umpiring pool.
The selection panel for this Award noted Jeff showed consistency over the 3 days, as well as the ability to take feedback from assessments and apply them immediately into game play.

Excellence in Umpiring Award
|
The umpires underwent an intensive 3 days of education classroom sessions, practical assessments, as well as umpiring the US Open. We had over 25 umpires in the national umpire pool and we'd like to thank our Umpire Director Kat Dooley for ensuring the transition and allocation of umpires went smoothly through 120 rounds of netball games.
We were also honored to have Bill and Carol Alexander advise the umpire panel, perform assessments as well as take the umpires through an intensive classroom session, which is very well needed and appreciated in order to ensure American Netball standards are consistent with top Netball nations.
