Students learn in two languages at Bryant-Webster Dual Language School in Northwest Denver.
Faculty Meeting FAQs Answered
Throughout the school year, Superintendent Tom Boasberg and Deputy Superintendent Susana Cordova visit every school to meet with teachers and leaders to hear what's going on in their schools and to answer questions. Recently, they stopped by Columbian Elementary and Bryant-Webster Dual Language School to hear from educators. Here is one question asked during the meeting (and the answer, too):

Q: I'm curious about the Seal of Biliteracy and how we are supporting it through high school. How are we tracking students who go on through high school so they know they can receive the Seal of Biliteracy?

A: Each high school has a designated contact for Seal of Biliteracy communications, usually a counselor or world language teacher. We provide information and support materials to that contact to share with team members who can help identify students who might be interested in applying to earn the Seal. Information about the Seal is shared during a meeting of all school counselors at the beginning of the school year, and there is an information table at all Superintendent Parent Forum/ELA-DAC meetings. Contacts also receive a list of students at their school who have been in TNLI and Dual Language programs and thus have been developing literacy in English and Spanish. Once students have completed the online application, the Seal of Biliteracy team at the school-support office tracks their progress and sends further information via the school's Seal contact.

All educators at DPS high schools are encouraged to help spread the word about the Seal to interested students. More information and resources are available at sealofbiliteracy.dpsk12.org, and questions may be sent to [email protected].
This Week's Top 5 Things to Know
When Can I Expect My Top Performing/High Growth ProComp Payment?
Teachers and SSPs are eligible for the combined Top Performing/High Growth incentive if their school was green or blue on either the "growth" or "overall measure" of the School Performance Framework. Under a DPS/DCTA agreement, the award size is determined by the available budget in the ProComp Trust divided by the number of teachers/SSPs in the schools that qualify. Whereas last year there were 84 schools that qualified, there are 111 schools that are eligible this year.

The members of the ProComp Trust Board, which is composed of DPS, DCTA and community members, will vote on the available budget Nov. 15. We are working to ensure the award will be included in November paychecks. Stay tuned for more information.
