Every child who needs a mentor should have a mentor.

Technical Assistance Updates

This month, we welcome two new additions to our program team as part-time technical assistance providers: Ashley Williams and Tabatha Spurlock. Both Ashley and Tabatha come to VMP with a depth of experience with coordinating mentoring programs and implementing quality practices in previous roles with the Department of Juvenile Justice Re- Entry Mentoring Program and Henrico HEROES, respectively.

With Gratitude

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, VMP would like to extend our gratitude to  programs, volunteers, staff, and supporters of mentoring who do so much to promote mentoring and impact the lives of Virginia's youth. We also feel it is important to take a few moments  to express appreciation to our mentors and those caring adults who made an impact on our lives. We invite you to take a few moments and share your mentoring story, and tag VMP!

Giving Tuesday - Moving Mentoring Forward

On Tuesday, 11/28, known in the non-profit community as a global day of giving called "Giving Tuesday," VMP will kick off its 5-week, year-end fundraising campaign. Our Board members will be reaching out to honor their mentors, and to share their stories of why they give and why they are connected to VMP's mission.

Our efforts will help sustain VMP financially and will allow us to "Move Mentoring Forward."

  • We want to move kids off of waiting lists in our partner programs by inspiring volunteers to get involved as mentors.
  • We want to move youth mentoring to be a top priority for community leaders and to recognize quality mentoring as an important intervention for kids that help them to succeed in school, meet their goals, and prepare for college and the workforce.
  • We want to move VMP into the spotlight and prepare to celebrate our 25th anniversary in 2018, and honor the work of our mentors and program partners!
Please consider making your year-end, tax deductible contribution  as part of our "Moving Mentoring Forward" campaign. As you may know, VMP is a small nonprofit with a large reach, and we rely on grants from corporations and foundations, and gifts from donors and supporters to provide our services. Staff Transitions

As many of you know, last month VMP bid farewell to our Director of Programs, Rose Marie. For 2.5 years, Rose Marie provided leadership to our program services, including our trainings, technical assistance, quality system, and regional outreach. We miss her but we are excited for her new professional chapter!

Since mid-October, Rose Marie has been serving in her new role as Executive Director and CEO of Communities in Schools of Petersburg. As she finished up her time at VMP, Rose Marie shared this reflection:

"My time at VMP has provided me many experiences and assisted in the development of new skills that I will leverage in my new role. I am thankful to have worked with such a committed staff, board and program partners. It has been a joy to work with so many programs across the state of Virginia that know the power of mentoring and work tirelessly to ensure that youth have caring and trusted adults in their life."

Please join us in wishing Rose Marie well in her new role with CIS of Petersburg!
