Pop-up art gallery comes to Broad Street
A pop-up art gallery has come to 378 Broad Street (next to the Town Pub). The Recreation Department has turned an empty storefront into an artistic haven where residents of all ages can share their artwork. The gallery was established in late October and will continue until spring, with new displays every six weeks. Read more
The competition returns: Bloomfield’s Most Talented!

Do you sing, dance, or play an instrument? Maybe you perform magic, gymnastics or karate, juggle or recite poetry. All acts are welcome in the 5th annual Bloomfield’s Most Talented Competition on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. in the Bloomfield High School auditorium. The Bloomfield Cultural Commission invites children and adults to compete. Solo or group performances are welcome. All participants must live in, go to school, or work in Bloomfield. Avoid invisible danger in your home
You can’t see it, taste it, or smell it, but carbon monoxide can be deadly. With temperatures finally cooling, and people firing up furnaces and boilers, it’s time to think about carbon monoxide poisoning. Don’t be fooled by symptoms that seem like flu, food poisoning or other illnesses. Read more
Turkey give-away, Nov. 19
Mayor Michael Venezia will host a Thanksgiving Turkey Give-Away on Sunday, Nov. 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine. The turkeys are free for eligible Bloomfield families who register in advance. Distribution will take place at 1 Municipal Plaza in the back parking lot. For eligibility requirements and registration, call the Department of Health and Human Services at (973) 680-4017.
Police hold toy drive
The Bloomfield Youth Aid Division is collecting toys for less fortunate children in the community, to be distributed during the holiday season. Help out by bringing new unwrapped toys to Bloomfield Police HQ, Bagels Abroad or ShopRite by Dec. 15. To request gifts for your children, call Youth Aid at (973) 680-3153.

Bloomfield’s mobile farm stand known as The Veggie Truck, has finished its 2017 season and will return next June.
Youth Sports

Boys & Girls Basketball Tryouts - Players in grades 6, 7 and 8 will be evaluated at Bloomfield High School on three days in November: Monday, Nov. 6, Monday, Nov. 13, and Wednesday, Nov. 15. Advanced players will be selected for the suburban traveling teams; all others for in-town teams. Online or in-person pre-registration is required. Hours at the Civic Center are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or Wednesdays, 6 to 8:30 p.m. The fee is $55 until Nov. 3; $60 starting Nov. 4. Wrestling Registration is Under Way for junior division (grades 2-5) and senior division (grades 6-8). Senior division practice begins Tuesday, Nov. 14. Junior division practice begins Wednesday, Nov. 15. Fee: $45.

Little League Bat Standards Adopted - As of Jan. 1, 2018, the new USA Baseball bat standard will be implemented in all Bloomfield Little League teams. Bats approved during the 2017 season will no longer be acceptable. Learn more
Hop aboard for the Radio City Christmas Spectacular
Join Bloomfield Recreation on Sunday, Dec. 3 for a bus trip to New York City to see the “Christmas Spectacular” at Radio City Music Hall plus the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center. Registration is under way now. Tickets are $100 per person, including transportation, orchestra seating and a voucher for popcorn and a drink. The bus will leave the Bloomfield Civic Center (84 Broad Street) at 12 noon. The show will begin at 5 p.m. Pre-register online , or go to the Civic Center. Tickets are limited and no refunds will be issued.
Veterans Day Events

The Annual Veterans Day Breakfast hosted by the Bloomfield Joint Memorial Committee will take place Sunday, Nov. 5 at 9 a.m. Tickets are $10 for the all-you-can-eat breakfast at Newark-Bloomfield Elks Lodge #21, 296 Bloomfield Avenue.

The Bloomfield’s Veterans Day Parade , on Saturday, Nov. 11, will begin at 10:30 a.m., starting from Town Hall and proceeding along Franklin Street to the Veterans Monument at Liberty and Franklin streets. Guest speakers and a performance of “Taps” will help us remember and honor deceased veterans.

Friday Fun Night – A cooking class presented by Chef It Up 2 will be the focal activity at the Nov. 17 Friday Fun Night. The Bloomfield Recreation Department’s once-a-month child-watching service takes place at the Civic Center from 6 to 9 p.m. Kids also enjoy games, movies and pizza. Meet Joe! He’s a middle-aged gentleman about eight years old and 65 pounds, a friend to people and dogs alike. Joe was left tied to the fence at a closed veterinarian's office, an inexplicable fate given his calm, gentle demeanor. He’s a perfect companion, takes treats nicely and enjoys walking on a leash.
