Be a real chairman: Bob Luce DOES NOT fool around with giveaways. The American National Services servicer of everything in office furniture is offering the Teknion Contessa high-end office chair, which retails for $1,150. Mr. B went researching, expecting Corinthian leather and Ricardo Montalban sitting there. Not exactly. This is a super-fine, mesh chair with all the technical wizardry ever patented. Says Contessa: ... "has an advanced mechanism that employs levers in the armrests that enable users to make adjustments while seated, encouraging accurate positioning and continuous movement." Movement, it seems, is healthy. So move your finger or cursor to "enter" and you could be sitting pretty and healthier in your own office.

Inn-credible: The first of seven debuting hotels near downtown is up and running, giving Convention & Visitors Bureau boss Bob Jameson 14 percent less heartburn. C'mon down, tourists, and check out the Fairfield Inn & Suites Fort Worth Downtown, about a good 7-iron from the Fort Worth Convention Center. Start your day with a free breakfast and some exercise in the fitness center, stay connected during the day with free Wi-Fi and when out, trolley with Molly to the Water Gardens and around Sundance Square. Claire (not related to Ivan) Maisel, Director of Sales, sold B2B on a night's stay, with all the comps and valet parking.

Canvassing: Mr. B heard this year's Camp Fire First Texas was holding its fabulosa An Artists' Christmas in South Beach. He made reservations to fly into Miami, stay with mum and take her to the party, dance to a little Gloria Estefan, etc. ... Unfortunately for B, that's the theme, not the site. So he and mum B will be playing scrabble in her Miami Beach condo and the two tickets he bought to An Artists' Christmas are available to a lucky B2B Insider reader for the Nov. 11 gala at the Fort Worth Zoo. There's dinner, cocktails, hot music, cool dancing, auction packages and art, glorious art from 82 artists. Discover the many ways Camp Fire changes the lives of children and families with its after-school programs, teen services, environmental education, camping and school readiness programs.

Ballers: Mr. B couldn't figure out the excitement of a Margherita Ball. Why a gala centered around pizza when you could get stuffed at a buffet? Fortunately, Carolann Morris, a veep at Inwood Bank and top peep at the Fort Worth Margarita Ball, explained: A generous group of volunteers and Margaritas raise money for more than a dozen children's charities throughout Tarrant County. The organization's (cocktail) mix of revenues are from membership dues, events, sponsors and guests. And no staff, no payroll. The dollars buy toys at Christmas, new school uniforms and other necessities year-round. Carolann says use these two tickets and come have a drink or two on her Nov. 9 at the Worthington Renaissance Fort Worth Hotel. See the excitement of helping kids less fortunate.

Can't bury great news: Bob Gaudry, sales guy with the company that owns Laurel Land funeral homes, says pre-arranged burial plots and cremations are transferable most anywhere in the country. So, daughter MisBehavin' and Son NoBGood are on notice that you can run, but you can't hide.

Tidbit: Fort Worth ISD Superintendent Kent Scribner says there is a direct number correlation between students who get a D or F in freshman algebra and the high school dropout rate.

Football bandwagon: Fred Slabach, President of Texas Wesleyan University, says the school's re-incarnated football program has brought in new students, including friends and girlfriends of the players, and those interested in band and pep squad participation.

What's cooking: During his State of the City address to attendees during a Chamber luncheon at the Sheraton Fort Worth Downtown Hotel, City Manager David Cooke says Fort Worth "is a great place to live and our job is to keep it that way." Cooke also volunteered two statistics to tease the yet-to-be announced economic development strategic plan:
1) Fort Worth has more acres of developable land than any three communities in the Metroplex combined.
2) Household growth is out-pacing job growth the past 10-to-15 years. More people are commuting elsewhere to work.

Shielding you: Under 65 and need health insurance? Leslie Shields of Health Markets says individual and small group open enrollment is only 45 days for 2018. Starts today and ends Dec 15. She suggests taking advantage of the more flexible requirements offered only during this time.

"We fully expect to be short-listed."

Direct deposit Mr. B's $500: Dane Young, the Credit Card Guy, says he can match or beat your rates or "pay you $500 just for letting us try." Mr. B is up for that. At his 39-cents-an-hour Chamber pay, taking it by credit card would be fees-dumb. So, Dane, beat that zero rate? Dane, by the way, has lost 30 pounds and work-mate/wife Kathy says he "can see his toes again."

Knight-ed: The Army Black Knights will return to the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl Dec. 23 at TCU's Amon Carter Stadium. They defeated SMU, 16-14, in 2010. A Conference USA team will be the opponent; perhaps University of North Texas will sneak in.

One man's trash is...: Fort Worth Country Day has partnered with Fort Worth-based Cowboy Compost to implement an on-site, long-term composting program. Cowboy Compost was founded by Miguel Harth-Bedoya, music director of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra.

In the drink: Epic Waters Indoor Waterpark, northeast of 360 and I-20, is 80,000 square feet of water attractions "with a full-service bar." It is scheduled to open mid-December.

Kudos: Freese and Nichols is No. 10 on Fortune magazine's list of top 150 small- and medium-sized businesses for which to work.
