SHARING OUR STORY

Emily Brown, CFX public affairs manager, and Will Hawthorne, CFX manager of engineering (center), met on Oct. 17 with Winter Garden Rotarians, including Ron Sikes (left) and George Spigener.

This month we had the opportunity to share our story with groups in Seminole, Orange, Lake and Osceola counties. From roundtable discussions to group presentations, there is no better way to learn about the Central Florida Expressway Authority than through our community outreach initiatives. Speaking to groups like the Rotary Club of Winter Garden (pictured above) also helps us better understand the communities we serve.

IN THE NEWS
CHECK OUT GATORPASS AND NOLEPASS AT CHECKOUT

Gators and Seminoles can now purchase a customized toll sticker right on campus. Look for GatorPass and NolePass the next time you check out at the UF and FSU Bookstores, respectively. You can also find GatorPass at the Gator Sportshop at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium and NolePass at the Seminole Sportshop at Doak Campbell Stadium. Pick one up for yourself or your student at the next home game, for just $18.50 plus tax.

As always, GatorPass, NolePass and KnightPass are available online at  CollegeEpass.com.

SAFETY TIP OF MONTH:
Don't Drive Drowsy

Getting behind the wheel of a vehicle while fatigued and drowsy can have dangerous consequences. Feeling tired mentally and physically can:
  • Impair your concentration and reaction time.
  • Hinder your judgment and vision.
  • Cause "micro-sleeping" (nodding off) or falling completely asleep.

PARTNER UPDATE:
I-4 Ultimate

Hughey Avenue Closed for a Year

Hughey Avenue from Church Street to South Street will remain closed for approximately a year while I-4 Ultimate crews construct the new westbound I-4 exit ramp to SR 408. The intersections of Church and South streets are still open so vehicles and pedestrians can cross Hughey Avenue. Pedestrians can use a covered walkway on Church Street to safely travel through the construction site.    Click here  for more information about parking and directions to Amway Center.

CFX HOLDS CORRIDOR STUDY PUBLIC MEETINGS

More than 400 people attended three CFX public meetings to review Concept, Feasibility and Mobility Studies on four proposed corridors included in the unbuilt portion of the Osceola County Expressway Authority (OCX) Master Plan. Attendees submitted more than 200 comments on the studies.

CFX is taking a fresh look at the four studied corridors to see if they are feasible and fundable under agency policies and procedures. The proposed expressway corridors are  the Poinciana Parkway Extension/I-4 Connector, Southport Connector Expressway, Northeast Connector Expressway and Osceola Parkway  Extension. These corridors would total nearly 60 miles of new expressways.

The overall goals of the proposed corridors are: to improve roadway connections from I-4/SR 429 to Florida's Turnpike, to US 192, and to SR 417; enhance mobility of the area's growing population and economy; reduce congestion on local roads; provide for possible transit options; and promote regional connectivity.

The study recommendations will be shared with the community during public meetings in February 2018. The studies will wrap up next spring, with the CFX Board reviewing and deciding which, if any, recommended alternatives should move forward for further consideration.

YOUR TOLL DOLLARS AT WORK: Several New Five-Year Work Plan Projects Underway

CFX customers may notice crews working  on SRs 408, 417 and 528. Three projects broke ground in October. All three are part of CFX's $1.6 billion Five-Year Work Plan - the largest in the agency's history.

Easing traffic congestion is the goal behind the widening of SR 408 from SR 417 to just east of Alafaya Trail. Crews will add a lane in each direction, add a lane to the entrance ramp from northbound Alafaya Trail to westbound SR 408, reconfigure the Rouse Road ramps, and add an Open Road Tolling (ORT) lane in both directions at the Dean Road Main Plaza. The project is expected to take about two years to complete.

Meanwhile, work is underway on a ramp realignment from southbound SR 417 to westbound SR 528 and the final phase of the SR 408/SR 417 southbound interchange. In the latter project, crews are adding flyover ramps and other improvements to the interchange, the second busiest in Central Florida. The ramp realignment should be complete within eight months while the SR 408/SR 417 interchange project has a fall 2019 completion date.
