Dear Jones Family,

What a busy week we have ahead!
  • FOJ "Friend-Raiser": On Wednesday, Oct. 11, we have our annual FOJ "Friend Raiser" event at Buddy Guy's.  This a great opportunity to get acquainted with other Jones parents, enjoy some wonderful food and thrill to the music of our outstanding student musicians.  See you there!
  • Selective Enrollment Open House: Saturday, Oct. 14, is our biggest annual event, (next to Graduation!). We will play host to as many as 5,000 prospective students and their parents, providing them the opportunity to get to know our school and its wonderful community.  Over the years, many parents have told us that their kids were undecided about what high school they wanted to attend until they attended the JCP Open House.  That's what "sealed the deal!"
Thanks to everyone for all your support and encouragement!

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time at 773-534-8606 or  [email protected].

Sincerely,

P. Joseph Powers, Ph.D.

TEDx at JCP

After a successful launch season in 2106/17,
TEDxJCP is coming back to Jones in the spring!

We are starting our application process early this year, with student applications  due Oct. 20
We will interview from the applications, and by the end of the month, we will select five Jones students to give TEDx Talks at our 2018 event. Last year's speakers will serve as mentors for the new group.

This year's theme is  "Truth and Dare": A twist on the classic truth or dare. We want talks that share a truth and then dare listeners to do something about it.

If you know of any student who has a story to tell, please encourage them to apply! We'd love applicants from all grades. If you have any questions, the TEDx team for 2018 is: Brady Gunnink, Fran Feeley, Julie Achettu, Abby Barton '17, and Olivia Landgraff '17.

Parent Liaison Program

Friends of Jones has revised the parent liaison program.  The SGA and teacher advisors have done extremely well with the program and therefore individual parent/class liaisons are no longer required.  The FOJ board liaison member will continue to work with the SGA and teacher advisors on their individual class fundraising initiatives whenever needed.

Thank you to those parents who expressed interest in the program and those who helped in the past.

Library News

Teen read Week, JCP Book Clubs, and Lincoln Award and More...

This week is TEEN READ WEEK , which aims to encourage teens to read and use the library. It's the ideal time to highlight our reading programs!

The JONES BOOK CLUBS  kicked off successfully last Wednesday! Book Club information is listed on the Books page of the library website. It's not too late to take part! Students can email [email protected]
or stop by the library to join.

The LINCOLN AWARD  program is all about YOUNG ADULT TITLES , also known as "YA" for short. The annual award, sponsored by the Illinois School Library Media Association (ISLMA) , goes to the author of the book voted as most outstanding by participating Illinois students in grades 9-12. The award is named for Abraham Lincoln, one of Illinois' most famous residents and himself an avid reader and noted author. The award aims to encourage high school students to read for personal satisfaction; familiarize themselves with young adult and adult book authors; and become lifelong readers. Students are invited to read four or more nominated titles to qualify for mid-March voting.

To view descriptions of all titles, stop by the display surrounding the fish tank in the library.

Curious Jones

Ever wonder what the Blue Ribbon banner hanging on the Jones building means and why we last achieved the status in 2012? Well, it's a BIG DEAL!

Bestowed by the U.S. Department of Education, the coveted Blue Ribbon School award is sought by public and non-public schools throughout the country. It recognizes school leaders who demonstrate a vision of excellence, hold their students to the highest standards, and achieve the state's highest graduation rates.

Schools are eligible to apply
for this prestigious status every six years.
JCP was the first CPS high school to earn the Blue Ribbon award and is the only CPS high school to achieve it twice: 2006 & 2012!
