We're entering what we all know as "The Giving Season." It's a time to give thanks and a time to give back. If you've already made a gift to United Way of Whatcom County this year, you've helped ALICE. If you haven't yet made your gift, there's still time!
ALICE stands for Asset Limited Income Constrained Employed and refers to those who live above the poverty line and are employed, but struggle to make ends meet. ALICE has to choose between food or electricity, diapers or medicine, and rent or childcare. More than 2 in 5 households in Whatcom County fall into the ALICE population or below the poverty line. ALICE is the person you sat next to on the bus, that friendly barista who poured your coffee this morning, your neighbor, your friend. ALICE is all around you, and she needs your help. For ALICE, we must fight. As a friend of United Way, we ask that you join us in the fight.

New Development and Communications Manager Joins the UWWC Team
We proudly welcome Tera Contezac to the United Way team! Originally a Midwesterner, Tera moved to Whatcom County in 2008. She finds it to be the most beautiful place in this country and is proud to call Bellingham her home. With prior experience in education and, more recently, eight years of direct service and non-profit management, she is excited to continue to bring our community together through her work here as our new development and communications manager. She envisions our community as a place where everyone can life a life full of opportunities and, with your help, knows that will happen if we live United! Tera is giving to United Way this giving season because she wants to invest in a bright future for her daughter.

You've heard of Black Friday. You've probably even heard of Cyber Monday, but have you heard of
#GivingTuesday? We're proud to join this
global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities, and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide.
Occurring this year on November 28th, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the US) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday. This day is a kick-off to the holiday giving season and inspires people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support. Now, the only question is, how will you give?

United Way Campaign Execs Light Up Workplaces Across the County
Every fall, we have the pleasure of visiting many of you at your workplaces. Already this year, we've been to Samson Rope, BP, PeaceHealth, and WECU, to name a few. Our team enjoys getting out into the community, along with representatives from our
30+ partner programs, to share information on what it means to live United. We share stories of the tens of thousands of lives directly impacted by United Way of Whatcom County each year. More than that, our workplace campaigns bring folks together. From chili cook-offs at WTA to ping-pong tournaments at Samson Rope or a little bit of friendly corn hole competition at Ferndale School District, giving has never felt so good! Living United at the BP Agency Fair
Our friends at BP hosted yet another successful United Way fair, where over a dozen of
