The Bay Area's TOP Casino
The Bay 101 Casino held their Grand Opening last month and received a rousing welcome. The new $53 million building, which spans 68,000 square-feet on North First Street in San Jose, is now Feng Shui certified and uses energy-efficient lighting. "We're very proud of the finished project," said Rich Alvari, the Casino's director of sales, marketing and special events. "The lighting, the open space, the rich wood. The idea was to have a comfortable space; not the glitzy Las Vegas feel." The new Bay 101 Casino, at 1788 North First Street in San Jose, is also home to The Province, a Asian fusion restaurant from the owners of three upscale Santana Row eateries: Sino, Straits and Roots & Rye. |

The Big Game -- Cal Bears 14 v. Stanford Cardinal 17
Stanford running back Bryce Love is stopped by Cal linebacker Gerran Brown but Love later reeled off a 57-yard touchdown run on the way to a 101-yard performance. With the victory, Stanford coach David Shaw now holds the school record of 72 career wins and surpasses Pop Warner's record, set from 1924-32. Photo by Darren Yamashita. |
Cal running back Patrick Laird (28) shouldered the offensive load for the Bears, running for 153 yards on 20 carries and caught four passes for 47 yards and scored a touchdown. The Bears record dropped to 5-6 (2-6 Pac-12), but they can become bowl eligible by beating the UCLA Bruins (5-6, 3-5 Pac-12) in Los Angeles on Friday night. Photo by Darren Yamashita. |

Sonoma Raceway
Fifty-three Sonoma County non-profit organizations will benefit from more than $405,000 in grants which were recently awarded by the Sonoma chapter of Speedway Children's Charities (SCC), the charitable arm of Sonoma Raceway. In total, $405,537 was distributed to youth-serving organizations in Sonoma County, bringing the chapter's total distribution of funds to just over $6 million since 2001. SCC's success was due largely to the 13 SCC fundraising events in 2017, the majority of which are held during the raceway's major-event weekends, including NASCAR, NHRA and IndyCar. The Grand Prix Salute Banquet, pictured above and held prior to the Grand Prix of Sonoma, generated $110,000 for the Sonoma chapter. For more information, visit: www.sonomaraceway.com. |

Just finish, baby, just finish! Over 9,000 runners took part in the 5th Annual Berkeley Half Marathon on Sunday morning, Nov. 19, under clear skies and ideal running conditions. Above, two stalwarts, far behind the main pack, doggedly press forward to finish the

Sports Prep Star --
Laura Parker
Bentley High School
-- Senior -- Golf
Laurel Parker is Bentley High School's lone female golfer this fall. But that doesn't even phase her level of play! She is now competing on the spring Coed Varsity Golf Team at Bentley and serves as team captain. Recently Laurel competed at the Bay Area Conference Women's Golf Championships, held at the Presidio Golf Course in San Francisco. Laurel placed first with a score of 88, out of 27 competitors. By winning the conference tournament she automatically advances to the North Coast Section Championships. In October, Laurel received the North Coast Section (NCS) Touchstone Foundation Scholarship. She was selected as the recipient of this scholarship, out of 176 NCS member schools. The scholarship will pay $1,000 directly to the college she chooses to attend. This scholarship recognizes her outstanding achievement as a scholar, an athlete, and citizen of the Bentley community. Courtesy Sportstars Magazine. |
