Quilts that Care will host their 5th Annual fundraiser on October 12th at the Village at East Farms, 180 Scott Road, Waterbury. This cocktail party includes chance drawings, food and drinks- including pumpkin martinis! Mental Health Connecticut to Host 5th Annual Art of Wellbeing Event (October 21)
Special guests Jimmy Greene and Nelba Márquez-Greene, two inspirational and remarkable members of the Connecticut community, will be the featured speakers of this year's Art of Wellbeing: An Evening of Jazz, Hope, and Healing. Jimmy and Nelba are the parents of Ana Grace whose life was taken during the tragedy in Sandy Hook on December 14, 2012. The evening will begin with an opening reception, including gourmet hors d'oeuvres, an open bar, and desserts provided by the talented team at Mohegan Sun. The mobile auction will be live throughout the evening where attendees can bid on several wellness related packages. Connecticut-born jazz musician Jimmy Greene and his quartet will play music from his recent Grammy® nominated release. Through an intimate discussion, led by New England News Collaborative and WNPR's John Dankosky, Jimmy and Nelba will share their experience of the power of healing through music and personal expression and how the Márquez-Greene family promotes love, connection, and community to honor their daughter, rebuild their lives, and impact the lives of those around them. Nelba will also share the good works of The Ana Grace Project, a nonprofit where the family's slogan of "Love Wins" has become a powerful force for changing thousands of lives in our schools and communities. Hine Bros. 70th Anniversary Open House Celebration (October 26)
Hine Bros. Inc. in Southbury will host their 70th Anniversary with an Open House event Thursday, October 26, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a dedication ceremony at 12:00 noon. Continental breakfast will be served 8:00 to 11:30 a.m. and lunch 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Lunch will include Green Pizza Truck's individual specialty pizzas, hors-d'oeuvres, home-made salads, and gelato. This free business workshop presented by: The Small Business Administration and Western Connecticut SCORE will help you learn what it takes to have a successful start-up business. Carolyn's Place 25th Anniversary Dinner (November 5)
Carolyn's Place Pregnancy Care Center is celebrating their 25th Anniversary with a dinner event on November 5th from 4:30-8:30 at La Bella Vista, 380 Farmwood Road, Waterbury. Sacred Heart High School Annual 5K and Awards Dinner (November 4 & 6)
Sacred Heart High School is preparing for two of its major events in November- the annual 5K Road Race and the Annual Awards Dinner. The school's 5th Annual Veterans Day 5K Dash benefits the SHHS Scholarship Assistance Program and Wounded Warriors, and will be held on Saturday, November 4th. This event is rain or shine and starts and finishes at the school. Registration is 8:30 AM with a "Little Hearts Dash" at 9:30 and the race start time at 10:00 AM. Then on November 6th, the school will host its 95th Anniversary Awards Dinner and Silent Auction beginning at 6:00 PM at the Aqua Turf in Plantsville. This years honorees include: Rev. Allan J. Hill, Dr. Judith Lombardo '89, Mr. Milford Hayes '89, Mr. John D'Amelia, Mrs. Sandra Tumkus Micalizzi '72, Mr. Martin Morra '70, Mr. William J. Acts 4 Ministry Seeking Donations To Annual "Share The Warmth" Campaign 
Acts 4 Ministry Inc., a non-denominational, non-profit charitable organization, is seeking donations of new or gently-used coats, hats, gloves, scarves, sweatshirts, blankets and new socks, new thermals and undergarments for children and adults during their 2017 "Share the Warmth" drive through December 31. Men's coats and new long johns are especially needed. Donations can be brought to Acts 4 Ministry at 1713 Thomaston Avenue in Waterbury, Mondays through Fridays between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., and Saturdays 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to receive a receipt for tax deductions, or donations can be left in Acts 4 Ministry's 24/7 white drop box located outside their facility. Founded in 1947 in Southbury, the family-owned business has grown from a small gas station and garage to the addition of a 20,000 square foot facility in Bridgeport. Connecticut Community Foundation Names Julie Loughran New CEO
The Board of Trustees of Connecticut Community Foundation recently announced the appointment of Julie Loughran as its next President and Chief Executive Officer. Loughran has served as the Foundation's Director of Development and Communications since 2014 and will take over the reins from Paula Van Ness, who plans to retire in December after leading the Foundation for six years. The Foundation's board has been working for nine months to determine what the organization would need in leader that would succeed Van Ness upon her retirement. The Board selected Loughran following a rigorous selection process that included consideration of several short-listed candidates. Since joining the Foundation, Loughran has worked to raise awareness among philanthropically-minded people throughout Greater Waterbury and the Litchfield Hills of opportunities to build charitable funds that will benefit the community for years to come. She has also overseen the Foundation's external communications with donors, nonprofit organizations, community leaders and the general public, and has supervised the production and implementation of the Foundation's Give Local Greater Waterbury and Litchfield Hills annual giving day. She has also overseen the creation of a Women's Giving Circle, which is new this year. Loughran will formally assume her new role on November 15. The Watermark at East Hill Announces New Dining Services Director
The Watermark at East Hill is pleased to announce the addition of Jason Matula as Dining Services Director for the continuing care retirement community, located at 611 East Hill Road in Southbury. Matula comes to The Watermark with over 20 years of regional and local dining services experience. In his new role, he will manage the entire operation of the dining services department.
