College Planning, PSATs, and Early Dismissal for All Upper School Students on Wednesday
All RHP and Renaissance students in grades 9 through 11 will take the PSAT (Practice SAT) on this coming Wednesday morning. The test is a non-pressurized way for students to become familiar with the format of the SAT, as well as for them to spot areas of relative strength and weakness to focus on as they gradually move through the years and take rather more critical standardized tests in junior and senior year. Additionally, for juniors, the top students have the opportunity for their scores to be judged for the NMSQ (National Merit Scholar Qualifying) competition.
No sign-up is required. Students should come prepared with their #2 pencils and calculators to start the test promptly at 8:00 a.m. They will be dismissed from school at approximately 12 noon and not need to attend afternoon classes. Students needing extra time should consult with Mr. Wilkens, Mrs. Birnbaum, or Mrs. Ressler on Monday for an estimate of their finish times. These students will be allowed to text home to alert parents when they will be ready to be picked up.
There will be no After School Program for Middle or Upper School on Wednesday, but it will be offered on Thursday as a makeup day. Buses will run at normal times and also at 12:30 p.m.
Athletics and performing arts practices will run as normal unless otherwise noted by those departments. Students needing to stay for such obligations may not leave campus in the interim without specific permission from parents, and, if granted, then must sign out and back in.
Seniors will take part in a college planning workshop from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and will then be dismissed for the afternoon, and middle school students will follow a regular, unaltered Wednesday schedule.
Welcome back to all students from what were some invigorating and character-building outdoor education experiences!
