2017 NACDE Employee Conservation Award

It is with great pleasure that the 2017 Northeast Association of Conservation District Employees (NACDE) Employee Conservation Award is presented to Robert Sweitzer, District Manager for the Centre County Conservation District in Pennsylvania.
Sandy Thompson, District Manager for McKean County Conservation District and Vice President forof the NACDE, Deb Wilson, District Manager for Jefferson County Conservation District, and members of the PACD District Employees Committee, presented the award to Bob for his active participation in state association meetings at both the regional and state level, as well as his long-time service as a member of several PACD committees, including the PACD District Employees Committee.

Did you know PACD maintains several listserves as a service to our members? While the directors, managers and watershed specialist lists are intended to be exclusively for those folks, there are email lists for other staff, as well. There are lists for agricultural technicians, Chesapeake Bay technicians, environmental educators, administrative staff, erosion & sediment control technicians, and staff who work with dirt, gravel, and low volume roads.
Conservation district staff can use the listserves to ask questions and share information with each other. Also, PACD uses the lists to notify these audiences about upcoming trainings. To join a listserve, just send an email to [email protected].

DEP Opens Agricultural Planning Reimbursement Program
The PA Department of Environmental Protection has introduced a new Agricultural Planning Reimbursement Program.
Through this program, agricultural operators/landowners in Pennsylvania's Chesapeake Bay watershed can be reimbursed for fees they've paid to consultants to create manure management plans, nutrient management plans, and agricultural erosion and sediment control plans. Reimbursement funds are allocated based on impact to the Chesapeake Bay and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that the registration deadline for this program is April 1, 2018.

State Technical Committee Meeting Oct. 19th
USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service invites the public to attend the PA State Technical Committee Meeting which will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2017, at the USDA State Office Conference Room at 359 East Park Drive in Harrisburg. October's meeting will include a presentation on an urban agriculture Conservation Innovation Grant by Beth Futrick, PA Agricultural Ombudsman; a presentation on Bentonite Application from Dr. Amir Hass, West Virginia State University; and updates on fiscal year 2018 Farm Bill conservation programs.
