The Wave
October 6, 2017
Today, we are sending home information on the 3rd annual TRCS Fun Run!  Our Board wanted to continue this tradition and provide an opportunity for the community to help with an improvement of the building each year. Last year, we raised the money to purchase all the lockers for the new school!  That was amazing!

This year, we want to put down pavers (cement is very expensive) for the back student picnic area. The tables are sinking, and with the rain coming, we are going to be looking at a soupy mess out there if we don't get this managed. So we are going to fix that with this Fun Run! We also want to make sure that the kids are getting some fun out of the deal - and we hope to make enough to go roller skating at the end of term 1! Hopefully, both wishes will come true. We are so excited to have this on our own field on October 27th. I hope that you will come and run with your kids! Who knows, maybe your own friends and family will donate for you! We have a weather make-up day planned for November 3rd. Please help us by helping your kids be a part of our strong community spirit by participating fully in this fun run! You can download a poster here. Pledge forms are going out with the kids this afternoon and the prizes in addition to the roller skating party are:

TRCS Student Family with the most pledges:
               * Trip to have pizza lunch & see a movie!
          Individual
               * Trip to Starbucks with 5 friends!
               * Trip to fro yo with 5 friends!
               * Extra recess for individual's grade level!

Have a great weekend...that harvest moon is amazing!  make sure you get outside to watch it!

Birthdays at School
Please know that we have a birthday policy for students. You can find this in the directory on pg. 21 or in the planner on pg. 11. We ask that the school celebration of birthdays stay to Monday's meetings to reduce distraction and disruption. If students wish to be acknowledged on their special day, they can bring a book wrapped as a gift to the school. Otherwise, we ask that birthday celebrations remain at home.
Chalk.com
We are waiting to issue parent account activation until the programmers at Chalk have finalized the two step authentication process is ready for release. We are holding until we are convinced that it all is safe and ready to link parent & student accounts. Thank you for your patience as the software company works out the bugs and we are ready to roll out without a hitch. Please be watching next week for an email activation, as well as a separate code that will be required to set up a parent account.
Google Classroom
In conjunction with parent accounts in Chalk, we will be introducing Google Classroom connections for parents. Each teacher will be providing the opportunity for email communication to parents so that you can stay connected to assignments and activities they post in Google Classroom. We plan to issue parent account activation via email next week when the Chalk email is released. Please be watching for both of these important emails!
Safety Drills 2017/18
On Wednesday, our first Earthquake drill occurred here at TRCS.  We will have the following drills this year:
5 - Fire
2 - Earthquake
1 - Lockout
1 - Lock-in
We follow the Oregon State Revised Statutes for drills required in public schools.

November 16th - 6:00 - 8:00 PM
Our Parent Involvement Committee met this week, with Karen Gault and Sheila Walker at the helm, and created our year ahead. You can read the notes from that meeting here. Most importantly, we will be having a Community Thanksgiving Gathering on November 16th. There will be more details to come in the WAVE.  Please save the date to be thankful together with our TRCS community!

Lunch Program
The menu and order form for November is here! Orders & payments are due on October 18th.
WE NEED TO HAVE A STRONG SHOWING or we will not be able to offer this option to our students and teachers. They have a minimum of 30 orders per date. This means that if you want to have this option continue, we need to increase the orders.  They are willing to work with us for one more month. We hope that you will try this lunch option!
Fall Conferences
Please be on time for your conferences.  We will do the exact same thing on our end, by being on time and respecting your 30 minute time frame.  Our teachers will be starting and ending your conferences on time!

Thank you for coming!

Scrip for ODS!
This year, we are using Scrip as a fundraiser for Outdoor School fees. The percentage of money earned from all of your orders will be "banked" and that amount will be deducted from your ODS fees. We had a great order last week! Let's keep the momentum going and get your order into the office by Tuesday morning. You could earn free money towards ODS!  Learn more.

Bringing drinks to school in the AM
Our staff has requested that you keep drinks that you have purchased for kids on the way to school in your car. This has become a distraction in their classes. If you would stop a bit early and finish it on the way to school, we all would appreciate it. Water bottles (with water or ice) are allowed in class but if students have a difficult time with spills, we will ask that they keep their water bottles in their locker.  Juice and other types of drinks will need to stay in lockers as well.

Landscape Help Needed!
We have called all the landscape folks that signed up at Back to School night, but they are unavailable. We have some large weeds (really not that many) that are in the wildflowers. We just need to keep on top of them!  Anyone want to come and weed on a regular basis?  This would help to keep the grounds looking great. We would sure love your help!  Contact the [email protected] if you can help!

OCTOBER 27th 1:00 - 2:45!!!
Today at the school meeting, we will be taking about this Fun Run with students and sending home forms to start collecting pledges for their run. The proceeds from the run will go to pavers for the back student picnic area for students to enjoy. The tables are sinking back there! We also will fund a roller skating trip, if there is enough left over!  We will be announcing prizes for classes and individuals. We are running/walking on the field at TRCS. We are so looking forward to creating a community event where the whole family can come and run/walk with us!  More details next week in the WAVE!

John Martin - TRCS Board Member
John Holtgraves - TRCS Avid Supporter

The pictures of the rock garden at the top of the WAVE this week is all due to these two gentlemen. They singlehandedly moved these "TONS" of Columbia River Basalt into their new home in front of TRCS. We plan a classroom space out here and wanted to work in rocks to sit on. Thank you both for your care and kindness toward the learning at TRCS.  It is a beautiful example of kindness that will carry forward for many many years!

THANK YOU BOTH!
