HalloweenFest Draws Local Crowd

to Chiropractic Health Center

 

The college’s Chiropractic Health Center held its first HalloweenFest on Friday, October 27, welcoming about 200 members of the local community and the Sherman College family. The event featured trick-or-treating, family fun, food trucks, candy and games.

Employee groups, student clubs and interns worked together to decorate doorways and rooms along the adjusting room hallways, including a mummy, a giant inflatable T-Rex, a candy monster, a Candyland-themed space and a Nightmare Before Christmas doorway.

Attendees received free food tickets and enjoyed refreshments from two local food trucks. Given its success, the Health Center is planning to host this event again in 2018. See more photos in our Facebook photo album.

Taking the Scenic Route

Meet Ainsley, one of the college’s newest family members. Ainsley Marie Marshall was born April 7, 2017, weighing 6 pounds, 11 ounces, and was 18.5 inches long. Proud parents are Chip Marshall and Monica Friske Marshall, D.C., ’14, of Bristol VA/TN.

Why Chiropractic: I want to share the chiropractic message all over the world and work to make sure that every man, woman, and child is under the care of a principled chiropractor. Without interference to the nervous system, the human body is capable of amazing things, and I want to dedicate my life to making sure that I can remove that inference from as many people as humanly possible.

 

Favorite thing about Sherman: I love how dedicated the professors are to making sure that we are learning and understanding the philosophy of chiropractic.

Spartanburg Colleges Represented

in Downtown Public Art Project

The newest public art project in Spartanburg seeks to give the county’s seven colleges more of a presence downtown.

 

Electric Art, an effort by Hub-Bub and the College Town consortium, features colorful vinyl coverings on nine utility boxes across the city. Each of the county’s seven colleges and College Town are featured on boxes.

 

“We wanted to do something arts-based in downtown Spartanburg that showcased the colleges,” said Naomi Sargent, director of College Town and Quality of Place at the Spartanburg Chamber of Commerce. “We wanted to give students a sense of ownership in downtown.” Read more about Spartanburg’s Electric Art project.

Students Reduce Stress

 

Sherman students often juggle a heavy class load, a busy home life, a tight budget and more. Recognizing the need to help students reduce their stress and anxiety, the college has begun offering several activities each quarter that focus on improving mental health.

 

Over the summer, 25 members of the college’s faculty and staff completed an eight-hour Mental Health First Aid training course to develop skills to work with students whose stress becomes too much, possibly causing a mental health concern. This initiative, in part, stems from lessons learned at the training.

 

The college hosted a yoga workshop in October, and Student Affairs brought about a dozen dogs from Paws2Care to campus on November 16, just after midterm exams. See our photo album on Facebook and check out the photos from our local newspaper.
