Sherman College Breaks Ground on Drs. Thom & Betty Gelardi Student Center

Sherman College of Chiropractic broke ground on the 22,000-square-foot Drs. Thom and Betty Gelardi Student Center on November 13, celebrating the next steps of its campus master plan and ongoing capital campaign. The facility is named in honor of the college’s founder, Thomas A. Gelardi, D.C., and his wife, Betty Gelardi, D.C., a member of the college’s first graduating class. The Student Center will be the newest physical addition to the Sherman College campus since 2000.

“We are thankful for this opportunity to recognize our founders’ vision by naming, in their honor, a facility that ensures that their legacy for the chiropractic profession is carried on,” said Sherman College President Edwin Cordero, D.C., during the groundbreaking ceremony. Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving, a worldwide campaign for donations to be made to your favorite non-profit on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. This year it will be Tuesday, November 28, and Sherman College is participating to bring greater attention to the chiropractic profession and our campus expansion.

Last year on #GivingTuesday, millions of people in 98 countries came together to give back and support the causes they believe in. More than $177 million was raised online to benefit a tremendously broad range of organizations, and much more was given in volunteer hours, donations of food and clothing, and acts of kindness.

We look forward to seeing the Sherman College community come together to be a part of this global day of giving and, as a result, bring about real change for Sherman College and the chiropractic profession. Join our Facebook event ; you can donate to #GivingTuesday here: http://bit.ly/2j3p10n .
HalloweenFest Draws Local Crowd
to Chiropractic Health Center

The college’s Chiropractic Health Center held its first HalloweenFest on Friday, October 27, welcoming about 200 members of the local community and the Sherman College family. The event featured trick-or-treating, family fun, food trucks, candy and games.

Employee groups, student clubs and interns worked together to decorate doorways and rooms along the adjusting room hallways, including a mummy, a giant inflatable T-Rex, a candy monster, a Candyland-themed space and a Nightmare Before Christmas doorway.

Attendees received free food tickets and enjoyed refreshments from two local food trucks. Given its success, the Health Center is planning to host this event again in 2018. See more photos in our Facebook photo album.
Taking the Scenic Route
by Charles Tucker, III, DC2B

When embarking on a new journey, would you rather take the road often traveled -- the familiar, the norm -- or would you rather take the exciting, more rewarding, scenic route? At Sherman College of Chiropractic, you get that very opportunity, to not just take the basics, or simply what’s required, but to enhance your experience as a student. The administrative staff and professors here at Sherman believe that students should be provided the best education possible to fulfill their passion and to become the best doctors of chiropractic.

To accomplish this, along with an extensive curriculum, the college offers electives so students can learn more about the philosophy, build their knowledge on the science behind it all, and perfect and enhance the art of chiropractic. Read more on our blog.

Ambassador Spotlight: Chris
Marrone from South Plainfield, NJ

Why Chiropractic: I want to share the chiropractic message all over the world and work to make sure that every man, woman, and child is under the care of a principled chiropractor. Without interference to the nervous system, the human body is capable of amazing things, and I want to dedicate my life to making sure that I can remove that inference from as many people as humanly possible.

Favorite thing about Sherman: I love how dedicated the professors are to making sure that we are learning and understanding the philosophy of chiropractic.

Puppies Everywhere! Helping
Students Reduce Stress

Sherman students often juggle a heavy class load, a busy home life, a tight budget and more. Recognizing the need to help students reduce their stress and anxiety, the college has begun offering several activities each quarter that focus on improving mental health.

Over the summer, 25 members of the college’s faculty and staff completed an eight-hour Mental Health First Aid training course to develop skills to work with students whose stress becomes too much, possibly causing a mental health concern. This initiative, in part, stems from lessons learned at the training.

The college hosted a yoga workshop in October, and Student Affairs brought about a dozen dogs from Paws2Care to campus on November 16, just after midterm exams. See our photo album on Facebook and check out the photos from our local newspaper.
