SCS MISSION STATEMENT
As a Catholic school community, we believe in the uniqueness, dignity and potential of every student.  Following the life and example of Jesus Christ, we strive to build character while teaching compassion. By strengthening our students in spirit, mind and body, we prepare them to lead lives based on faith, values, and learning. 
NEWS & UPDATES
UNIFORM REMINDER
Hair accessories such as ribbons, bows, clips, headbands, scrunchies, and barrettes must be simple and keep to uniform colors (hunter green, navy, black, white, or plaid).  Any hair accessory deemed inappropriate will need to be removed.



FEAST OF ST. FRANCIS PET BLESSING
Please join us for our annual Pet Blessing, tomorrow,  October 4th .  The ceremony will begin at  8:30 am .  Parents, please bring your furry, scaly, fishy and feathered friends, and meet us in the front parking lot.  Deacon Jim will read the Creation story, then you will be called forward.  At that time, please join your son/daughter in line.  Students will be grouped by homeroom.  A Communion Service will follow.  We look forward to seeing you! 



BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT 
Back to School Night is this Thursday, October 5th at 6:30.
6:30 p.m.-6:45 p.m.: Meet in the great room for a brief meeting with Mr. Tisdale.
6:45 p.m. - 7:15 p.m.: Session I (Classroom Presentations)
7:15 p.m. - 7:45 p.m.: Session II (Classroom Presentations)
7:45 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.: Session III
Session I and Session II will be a repeat for those who have more than one child. Special area teachers will be available for all three sessions.  Session III will be for additional questions for any teacher.  

*We ask that if at all possible, students NOT attend Back to School Night.  


DRINK SALES
Beta Club drink sales will be this Friday, October 6th during lunch for $.50. 


TAG DAY
This Friday, October 6th will be tag day.  S tudents are allowed to wear non-uniform clothing in place of their uniform for a fee of 50 cents or $5.00 for the entire year. All monies collected for Tag Day are donated to a charitable organization. 

As a Catholic community, our attire should reflect modesty. 

Examples of inappropriate clothing are, but are not limited to:
  • Tops which are sleeveless, which do not cover the entire shoulder, or which have spaghetti straps 
  • Backless shirts/dresses that cover less than a uniform shirt 
  • Pajama tops or bottoms 
  • Leggings, jeggings, yoga pants 
  • Pants, shorts, and tops that are too tight; clothing should be loose fitting 
  • Skinny jeans 
  • Baggy styles are not permitted 
  • Shirts with a low scooped neckline 
  • Shirts not long enough to cover the waist and hips. When the shirt is tucked in and arms are raised above the head, the shirt should not come untucked. 
  • Shirts with inappropriate logos/pictures 
  • Skirts or shorts not knee length. *Knee length is defined by the hem of the skirt touching the CREASE AT THE BACK OF THE KNEE. 
  • Shoes with high heels, open backs or toes, sandals, Crocs 
  • Nail polish, makeup, or excessive jewelry
If students wear clothing deemed inappropriate, they will be told to call home for a change of clothing. Students having to change will lose their Tag Day privilege for the following month. A second TAG Day infraction will cause students to lose this privilege for the remainder of the year.



BOX TOP COLLECTION
This Friday is Box Top Collection Day.  Please send any box tops to your homeroom teacher.

SPIRIT WEAR ORDERS
Spirit wear orders are scheduled to arrive the week of October 16th.  If you opted to be billed in RenWeb, please remember shirts will not be sent home until payment has been received.  Payments can be made online or cash/check payments can be sent to the office.

SERVICE PROJECT NEWS
Each month two classes will team up to sponsor a school wide service project that will enable us to live by the words of Christ.  Each team of will sponsor a project inspired by a Saint that they have chosen to be their intercessor and inspiration.

SPORTS REGISTRATION FORMS
Registration for Basketball and Archery is now open.  For more information, please click on the registration forms listed below.

VOLLEYBALL
  • The Jr. Girls volleyball team will have their next game at Porter Gaud @ 6:30 P.M. on Wednesday, October 4th. 
  • Congratulations to the Sr. Girls volleyball team on their win against Goose Creek.  They will have a double header next Wednesday, October 11th at the Hanahan Recreation Center at 5:30 P.M. and 6:30 P.M. 

CROSS COUNTRY
  • Congratulations to our cross country team on their first meet this past Saturday, September 30th.  Jovany R. finished 5th in his age group! Way to go, Jovany!

GOLF
  • Congratulations to our golf team on their first match yesterday -  Monday, October 2nd.  

SOCCER
  • Congratulations to our U6 and U8 soccer teams on their first games this past Saturday, September 30th @ the YMCA. 
LITURGICAL NEWS
MASS
Please join us for a Communion Service at 9:00 am this Wednesday, October 11th.  Our celebrant will be Deacon Jim from St. John the Beloved.  The Communion Service will be assisted by 4th grade.

SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION
All sacramental preparation is done through the local parishes.   Please check with your parish if you would like your child to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, First Penance (Reconciliation) or First Holy Communion (Eucharist). Many of the parishes require a one or two year preparation, please contact your parish's Director of Religious Education or Faith Formation Coordinator as soon as possible.  Registrations are almost over for many of the parishes.  Anyone seeking the Sacrament of Baptism, please contact your parish office secretary to guide you to the right person responsible for the preparation of this sacrament.

PSA NEWS
FALL PICNIC
The Fall Picnic will be Friday, October 13th  from  6-8pm .  Please remember to bring chairs and/or blankets for the picnic.  We're looking forward to seeing everyone who is able to attend. We are still in need of volunteers to help clean up after the picnic.  Sign up is easy through SignUp Genius.  We are also in need of corn hole games to have at the picnic.  If you have one that can be used, please bring it with you to the picnic and email  psa@summervillecatholic.org  so we know how many will be there. Thank you to all who have already signed up!


CAR WASH TICKETS
Get them before they're gone! We have a limited number of car wash tickets remaining.  Please submit any orders with payment to the PSA as soon as possible.  Additional order forms are available upon request.


YANKEE CANDLE FUNDRAISER
Order forms are due this Friday, October 6th .  Please return your orders promptly and make sure the order total and amount of payment match.  Checks should be made payable to SCS, and orders will arrive prior to the holidays.


PSA AUCTION
The PSA Auction will be held Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Knight's Barn in Summerville.  Please mark your calendars to save the date for this sensational and fun-filled evening.


BOX TOPS, LABELS FOR EDUCATION, & TYSON PROJECT A+
These are an easy way to earn money for our school! Simply clip them off participating products and send them to school with your child on the first Friday of the month. If you have any questions or ideas about growing our program, please contact our Box Top coordinator Caroline Benton at cawbenton@gmail.com Please  Note:   The Labels for Education program   will soon be ending. Labels will need to be submitted before  Christmas Break, so they can be remitted.


VOLUNTEERS
Are you interested in volunteering in the school?  All SCS volunteers must go through a background screening and take an online class if they will be in contact with any of our students.  Some examples include helping in art class, chaperoning/driving on field trips, room moms, etc.  If you will be doing at-home volunteer opportunities, there is no screening or class required.  Please contact the office to complete your screening paperwork. 


VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Volunteers are needed to sew items for our liturgies.  If you know how to sew or know someone who does, please contact Miss Hollis at  mhollis@summervillecatholic.org.

Volunteers are needed to help after our Masses with putting away benches, chairs, and other furniture.  If you are able to help us with this task, please contact Miss Hollis at  mhollis@summervillecatholic.org.
