Dreams of a future career and attending college to pursue those dreams became a reality for four Barrow County eighth grade students when they were selected as the 2017-2018 REACH (Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen) Georgia Scholars for the Barrow County School System. They are joining a very exclusive group of students across the state who every day are striving to maintain good grades, behavior and attendance in order to graduate high school and college prepared for a career. REACH students are paired with a mentor and an academic coach through high school. Scholars who successfully complete the program are awarded a $10,000 scholarship that can be used at any HOPE eligible college in Georgia. Many colleges are matching or double-matching these funds. The scholarship is awarded in addition to any other grant or scholarship the student receives.

The BCSS REACH Scholars for 2017-2018 are: (L-R) Cheyanne Roche from Westside Middle School, Angel Hopkins from Haymon-Morris Middle School, Khristian Franklin from Bear Creek Middle School, and Roman Valderaz from Russel Middle School. 
Tools for Educational Success
The Barrow County School System recently adopted MAP Growth for students in grades 2-8. We have completed our first administration and results will come home with report cards on October 18th.
