Dear KMS Parents,

First of all, let me express my sincere concern and continued well wishes for both staff and students who suffered illnesses this past week as a result of the conditions at KMS. Please know that we recognize that this has been a very difficult week for all KMS families and staff.  We are working diligently on plans to continue the learning process while ensuring that all faculty and students are safe.

With that in mind, we have determined that the best and safest approach will be for the Kenston Middle School building to be closed until the roofing project is completed.  This project was implemented to improve the quality and safety of the facility.  We remain committed to that goal.

As we are all part of the Kenston family, arrangements have been made within the District to house students during the completion of the roofing project.  Teachers, administrators and staff are ready to welcome your children into their buildings.

  • Sixth graders will be assigned to Kenston Intermediate School to attend classes.
  • Seventh graders will utilize the classroom facilities at Gardiner Center.
  • Eighth graders will attend classes at the High School within their own academic wing for the majority of the day.
Going forward the plan is as follows: Monday, October 9th we will have online lessons and assignments for students to complete through Google Classroom.  As teachers tailor their lessons they will be mindful that students may or may not have all the instructional materials or access to a printer at home.

If students are unable to access their school Google account, they should click here to complete a form to have their password reset.  As a security measure, your password will be sent to the primary parent e-mail address listed in Infinite Campus.

On Tuesday, October 10th, KMS students will return to campus.  Our buses will be on a normal schedule and students will be transported to their newly assigned buildings.  We ask parents who drive their children to school, to drop them off at their assigned location (please see above).  Students will be given a brief orientation at the beginning the day. In addition, during the course of the day, they will have an opportunity to collect their educational materials from their lockers at KMS.  Alternative arrangements will be made if you would prefer your child not enter the building.

Tomorrow, we will communicate further details to explain and ease the transition for all students and parents.

Thank you again for your patience and support as we work through this unexpected and challenging situation.

Sincerely,

Nancy R. Santilli
Superintendent
