Report Suspicious Activity &
Follow These Home Security Tips
|
|
|
La Habra Heights remains one of the safest cities in the region. This week’s home invasion robbery is a stark reminder that we are not immune to crime.
Residents are encouraged to participate in a Neighborhood Watch Program(s), and look out for and report suspicious activity to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Industry Station at
(626) 330-3322
. If you observe an emergency and/or a crime is in progress, please call 9-1-1.

Helpful Home Security Tips:
|
- Always lock your windows and doors when you go out, even if for only a few minutes.
- Place a wooden or metal stick in all sliding door and window tracks or place a security pin (a large nail will also work) through the frame.
- Keep landscaping trimmed down around doorways, windows and light fixtures.
- Never leave a purse, wallet or other valuables in plain sight.
- Give the same importance to garage doors as you would your front door. Make sure they are of a solid core construction and have a deadbolt lock.
- Use several timers to turn on interior lights throughout your home. These timers should be used when you are both on vacation and at home.
- Never leave a house key available under a doormat, in a flowerpot, or on the ledge of a door. These are the first places a burglar will look!
- Install a peephole in your front door. NEVER open the door to someone you don't know!
- Engrave your valuables with your California driver license number. This makes your property more difficult to pawn and helps law enforcement to identify your property, if it is recovered.
- If you will be away for several days, have a trusted friend or neighbor pickup your paper and mail.
- Call the Sheriff’s Department to conduct vacation checks while you are away.
- Join a Neighborhood Watch Program! The best crime prevention device ever invented is a good neighbor.

Happy Halloween!
It's the time of year for costumes, sweets, tricks, and treats. As you prepare to celebrate Halloween, please consider these safety tips below while enjoying the festivities.
- Dress like a ghoul or goblin, but stay safe. Make sure costumes and candy containers are reflective. To avoid tripping, ensure costumes don't drag on the ground.
- Trick-or-treat with trusted neighbors.
- Drive slowly and anticipate pedestrian traffic. Children are excited on Halloween and may move in unpredictable ways.
- Keep footpaths clear for trick-or-treaters by placing decorations where visitors won't walk. Additionally, ensure electrical cords don't cross footpaths.
- Keep candies away from pets. All forms of chocolate-especially baking or dark chocolate-can be dangerous, even lethal, for dogs and cats.
