Wildlights at the Zoo
Join Global Engagement for an evening at the Columbus Zoo to celebrate winter and the holidays with their Wildlights installation. 

The zoo will feature displays of millions of LED lights to get you excited for this wonderful time.   Plan to meet the Ohio Union Bus Turnaround (12th Avenue) at 5:30 p.m. on December 1.

Seats are limited and will be given on a first come, first served basis. Visit   go.osu.edu/ZooWildlights  to register. Registration will open on November 20 and close on November 28 at 5 p.m.

The Truth About Sex
Global Engagement has partnered with Sexual Civility and Empowerment to host an important discussion on sex and healthy relationships. The event later this month is for men only.

Five Best Resources You Didn't Know Existed at Ohio State
Final exam season is just around the corner! Maximize your academic success and lower your stress by checking out these five useful campus resources you may not even have heard of!
  1. Dennis Learning Center's online academic success tutorials - videos and podcasts on topics ranging from test taking strategies, effective note review, test anxiety, avoiding procrastination and more.
  2. Universities Libraries has an extensive staff of Subject Librarians - each field of study at the university has its own specialized librarian to help students navigate the libraries' holdings, acquire hard-to-find materials, and generally assist students in research.
  3. Universities Libraries offers Research Tutoring - research tutors are available to provide assistance to undergraduate students on all matters related to conducting research.
  4. The Writing Center's online writing guides - the Writing Center, aside from offering in-person and online consultations, also makes available an extensive collection of writing resources, on subjects such as writing mechanics, paper content and organization, conducting research, and much, much more.
  5. University Housing's Tutoring in the Residence Halls - certified peer tutors can help you review concepts in math, physics, chemistry and other subjects; tutoring is available in four residence halls in different areas of campus.
Reading Day with Global Engagement
Global Engagement will be hosting a special event for Ohio State's Reading Day on Tuesday, December 7. We will have snacks and coffee available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in 160 Enarson Classroom Building. With a special activity from 12 - 1 p.m.

Room 100 will also be available until 9 p.m. as a designated study area for students looking for a quiet place to prepare for exams. There will also be an impromptu speaking hour from 12 - 1 p.m. with ESL Lecturer and Speaking Coach, Dan Montour. Montour will lead an hour of dynamic speaking exercises to improve your public speaking and creative thinking, and relax your brain to that you can go back to studying with a clear head.

Students are welcome to visit the Office of International Affairs during reading day to study or take a break!
Thanksgiving Dinner Tickets Available
Thanksgiving Dinner 2012
The Ohio State University will host one of the largest Thanksgiving Day dinners on a college campus on Thursday, November 23, 2017 in the Ohio Union. An estimated 1,600 guests will attend the dinner, including students, faculty and staff, along with their families, who are unable to travel home for the holiday. Joining them will be many volunteers throughout the university community to assist in serving the traditional turkey dinner.
Seatings for the dinner will take place at 11:45 a.m. and 2 p.m., and all guests must have a ticket to enter. Tickets are free and will be available starting Monday, November 13 at 140 Enarson Classroom Building, the Hale Black Cultural Center and the Ohio Union Information Center.
Thanksgiving Dinner is supported by the Office of International Affairs, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the Student Activity Fee.
New Credit-Bearing Course for First Year International Students
All international undergraduate students, and particularly those in their first year, are invited to enroll in a newly developed seven-week course for spring semester 2018, ESEPSY 2059: Becoming a Self-Regulated Learner (class number: 35054; TuTh 2:20 p.m. section; Younkin 220). 

The course is designed to help international students adapt to U.S. academic culture and practice skills (e.g., communicating with instructors, class participation, source citation, time management, active learning) needed for success in Ohio State classrooms. 

T he two credit hour course will be offered during the first seven-week session of Spring '18. The instructor has many years of experience working with international students and with teaching study skills.

Global Engagement Night - Thanksgiving
Join the Office of International Affairs for Global Engagement Night every Tuesday evening during the semester. Domestic and international students are invited to engage in weekly conversations on a variety of themes. 

The next Global Engagement Night will celebrate Thanksgiving! It will take place tomorrow, November 21, from 6 - 7 p.m. in 160 Enarson Classroom Building. 

We will have snacks and will do Thanksgiving arts and crafts. We hope to see you there!

Global Engagement Film Series - Poor Agnes
The Office of International Affairs collaborates with the Gateway Film Center to host a monthly international film series. Students have the chance to view films from around the world for free! 

The next screening will be of Canadian film, "Poor Agnes," and it will be shown on Wednesday, November 22 at 7 p.m. at the Gateway Film Center. 

"Poor Agnes" is a psychological horror film that tells the story of a small town serial killer that ends up forming a special relationship with one of her victims. Watch the trailer.

Registration is not required, but make sure to arrive early because the first 30 students will receive free popcorn and soda! 

Admission is FREE for students with a BuckID and offered at regular price to the public.

Crowd-Sourced Show to Air Ohio State vs. Michigan Game
100,000 Cameras is coming to Ohio State! The crew of 100,000 Cameras will produce a show for FOX Sports around the Ohio State-Michigan game on November 25. 

They are going to combine social media posts and fan footage with game highlights to tell the story of this great rivalry like never before. The show will air the following Saturday on FOX. Last year's installment of the series, 100,000 Cameras: The Daytona 500, won the Emmy for Outstanding Social TV Experience.

All fans will be able to submit footage to show by including the hashtag, #100kcams, in their social media posts starting now and leading up to the game. Watch this video for more instructions.

In addition to showing your perspective on the game itself, you can also  capture brief videos telling them who you are, where you live, and why the game is important to you. 
Recreational Sports Events in December
Unified Basketball League Open House
Sunday, December 3, 1 p.m.
ARC

Intramural Sports is teaming up with Special Olympics to offer a Unified Basketball League in Intramural Basketball during the Spring semester. The goal is to create eight teams of six Ohio State students, six Special Olympic athletes and two Ohio State student coaches. The Unified Basketball League competes on Sundays at 5:30 p.m. The regular season is scheduled to begin on Sunday, January 21, 2018 for a five-week regular season. Playoffs begin shortly after the regular season concludes. The postseason champion will be eligible to compete in the 2018 NIRSA National Basketball Championships hosted by Ohio State to pursue a national title in the unified division from April 20 - 22.

To provide more information, Intramural Sports and Special Olympics are hosting an open house for the Unified Basketball League. Teams will be able to register, participate in drills, meet other individuals on rosters and practice/scrimmage with other unified participants. Rosters will be made and team colors will be chosen during the open house.

Qajasaarneq
Monday, December 4, 6 - 8 p.m.
OAC Climbing Wall

Learn basic rope acrobatics and get a great core workout! Qajasaarneq is an ancient fitness training system for building strength, flexibility and coordination. It comes from the kayaking tradition of Arctic cultures. The object is to rotate completely around two ropes and return to the initial orientation without touching the ground. Some of the exercises simulate the technique of rolling a kayak back up from capsize. Registration for this clinic is FREE and is NOW OPEN.

Splash Day

RPAC Competition Pool

Register at the RPAC Welcome Center for your chance to make a splash before finals by taking a leap off the 10 meter diving platform in the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Students will have the opportunity to work their way up the 10 meter tower as they successfully jump from the 1, 3, 5 and 7.5 meter platforms. Each participant will receive a Rec Sports water bottle! Registration for this program is FREE.

Check out all Student Life Reading Day activities on Thursday, December 7. Group Fitness will offer a variety of fun filled and energizing classes to help you get through your finals. Leadership staff will be distributing "snack sacks" at the RPAC, NRC and JO South throughout the afternoon. No Registration Required.

Buckeye Shirt Exchange
Do you want a Beat Michigan T-shirt?  The Major Campus Committee in preparation for the Beat Michigan game will be hosting a T-shirt exchange starting November 11 - 21. We encourage students to trade in Blue and Yellow clothing and other clothing donations for a Beat Michigan T-shirt (T-shirts are limited). All Clothing will be donated to local Columbus Clothing Drives. Donation Location is the KBK Resource Center from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
 
Buckeye Pride, Paint, and Sip and Beat Michigan Craft Night
If you have a passion for crafting, we have just the event for you! On Sunday November 19, the Major Campus Events Committee will be hosting Buckeye Pride, Paint and Sip in the Performance Hall. Enjoy a cup of hot chocolate while you paint along with local artist Cody Heichel. From 3:30 - 5:30 p.m., you will complete an amazing piece of art to take home with you! Following, OUAB will be hosting Beat Michigan Craft Night from 6 - 8 p.m. in the Performance Hall. With so many different crafts to choose from, you will leave with so many art pieces to show off your Buckeye Pride! Stop by either event to discover your artistic skills!
 
Beat Michigan Late Night Brunch sponsored by The Major Campus Events Committee
This event will have free food and free giveaways!  As the semester comes to a close before thanksgiving break and right before the long time rivalry between Ohio State and Michigan, come join the Major Campus Events Committee as we celebrate our autumn semester success with chicken and waffles, games and giveaways in the Archie M. Griffin Ballroom on November 20, 7 - 10 p.m. Students are encouraged to wear their best Ohio State gear and come on out socialize and enjoy our late night brunch.

As a part of the Ohio State Suicide Prevention Program's Self-Care Campaign Event #BuckeyeBeWell (November 24 - December 7), the Suicide Prevention Program is hosting an event called "A Gift to Myself" to promote student wellness and a more rewarding winter break.

#MeToo: Community Conversations Week
The  Ohio State University is hosting a week of events to highlight #MeToo, an awareness campaign and social media movement that began in 2006 centered around sexual violence and sexual harassment. #MeToo: Community Conversations Week will bring together students, faculty, and staff in dialogue about campus culture, supporting victims of harassment and violence, and what the community can do to get help, to heal, and to proactively address patterns of harassment. 

The events will be hosted by student organizations and departments across campus and in the community and will take place November 27 - December 1. See the full calendar of events online.
