Join in the fun with Free Fall Baltimore! The 12th annual
Free Fall Baltimore
presented by BGE returns this month through
Tuesday, October 31, 2017,
allowing Baltimore City residents and visitors the chance to access
hundreds of arts and cultural events and activities
for
FREE!
Held in conjunction with National Arts and Humanities Month during October, participating venues throughout Baltimore City showcase the importance of the arts with free concerts, dance and theater performances, festivals, lectures, workshops, art exhibitions, tours, special events and more.
Some of the events included in Free Fall Baltimore this year include
Free Fall Friday Night
, granting free admission to the
National Aquarium

Dance Master Class Series
hosted by
The Collective
, performances of
Iron Crow Theatre’s The Cradle Will Rock
and
Julius Caesar by the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company
, a prose poetry writing workshop by
EMP Collective
, free yoga and classical music at
Sherwood Gardens
, a free performance by the
Peabody Modern Orchestra
and more! Some events have limited capacity and are first come, first serve in terms of attendance, or require advance registration. Overall, Free Fall Baltimore features more than 200 events & activities from 70 participating organizations. Free Fall Baltimore is produced by the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts (BOPA) and presented by BGE with additional support from Atapco Properties and the Henry and Ruth Blaustein Rosenberg Foundation.

School 33 Art Center's Open Studio Tour presented by Bank of America
On
Saturday, October 7 and Sunday, October 8 from 10am to 6pm,
visit the studios of more than 130 artists located throughout Baltimore City to view and purchase their original works of art, including paintings, sculptures and photographs during this self-guided tour. Open Studio Tour is an annual city-wide event that has brought together professional artists and the general public for almost 30 years. Each year, collectors and art lovers have the opportunity to visit artists in their studios, see their work, and get a behind-the-scenes glimpse into their working processes.

Monumental Sites Call for Ideas
The removal of Baltimore’s Confederate monuments has captured the attention of the public and inspired artists and others to propose ideas for what might happen next at the four sites left behind. In response, the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts has created an online portal, “
Monumental Sites
,” to serve as a central repository for the public’s suggestions and ideas.

2018 MECU Neighborhood Event Grants
Each year, the MECU Neighborhood Event Grants program awards cash grants to Baltimore neighborhood associations and community-based non-profit organizations for the purpose of producing special events. Thanks to the support of MECU, Baltimore’s credit union, eligible groups can receive up to $1,000 to produce an event for the community and residents they serve, such as art workshops, back-to-school rallies, block parties, book drives, food drives, health fairs and neighborhood clean-ups.

Maryland's largest producers-only market (meaning the vendors make 100% of what they sell) is now accepting applications for the 2018 season. The Baltimore Farmers' Market & Bazaar is accepting applications for farmers, concessionaires and bazaar vendors.

Baltimore Screenwriters Competition
Calling all screenwriters! The Baltimore Film Office is now accepting applications for the 13th Annual Baltimore Screenwriters Competition. Applicants can submit screenplays in the features and short categories. The top entries in both categories win cash prizes and the feature winners also receive all access passes to the 2018 Maryland Film Festival.

a solo exhibition of photographic works by Adam Davies. Over the past four years, Adam Davies has built a series of photographs showing structures in the American landscape that are overlooked or marginalized: deserted sites, hidden passageways, the undersides of bridges.

Brilliant Baltimore Kickoff Event
On Thursday, October 5th from 5-6:30pm at the Pier 5 Hotel Baltimore, Curio Collection by Hilton, (711 Eastern Avenue,)
join the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts for a kickoff party for
Brilliant Baltimore.
A part of Light City, Brilliant Baltimore expands in 2018 by encouraging not only landmarks, attractions, restaurants, hotels, apartment complexes, parking garages and corporate headquarters to light up but also homes and businesses through the new Brilliant Baltimore Community Showcase Program. Lighting companies will be in attendance to help brainstorm creative and cost-effective ideas.

Sound Off Live!
On
Wednesday, October 18 & Thursday, October 19 from 5-10pm at Hard Rock Cafe Baltimore,
Baltimore’s “Battle of the Bands” showcases emerging bands/musicians from the Maryland, Delaware and Virginia region. The winning bands/musicians selected from Sound Off Live! will perform at Light City, Artscape or the Baltimore Book Festival. The bands/musicians will have fifteen minutes to perform three songs in front of an audience and a panel of judges. A part of Free Fall Baltimore, the event is free and open to the public.

Baltimore Film Office Director Debbie Donaldson Dorsey Awarded
Reel to Real Award by Maryland Film Industry Coalition

Debbie Donaldson Dorsey, the director of BOPA's Baltimore Film Office since 2007, has received the
Maryland Film Industry Coalition
Reel to Real Award for Exceptional Contributions to Film and Television in Maryland. Debbie will be celebrated alongside Pat Moran, the other recipient of the award at the Reel to Real Party
Friday, November 17, from 8-11pm
