Issue #173 - October 5, 2017

From the Carpenter's bench:
"Faith is the daring of the soul to go farther than it can see." - William Newton Clark

A Church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday.  He wrote:  "I've gone for 30 years now, and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons, but for the life of me, I can't remember a single one of them.  So, I think I'm wasting my time, the preachers and priests are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all."

This started a real controversy in the "Letters to the Editor" column.  Much to the delight of the editor, it went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher:  "I've been married for almost 30 years now.  In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals.  But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals.  But I do know this:  They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today.  Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!"

When you are DOWN to nothing, God is UP to something!  Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible, and receives the impossible!  Thank God for our physical and our spiritual nourishment!  IF YOU CANNOT SEE GOD IN ALL, YOU CANNOT SEE GOD AT ALL! B. I. B. L. E. simply means:  Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth!

We often don't realize the resiliency we possess to get through tough times, but remembering that God always has a plan we can get through our hard times and struggles.

Saint Joseph our guide and guardian - Pray for us
Live Jesus in our hearts - Forever
Yours in faith,
Clay Jones

Filming on Friday!!

I am excited to announce that SJCHS will be filming a new promotional video on Friday, October 6th. Please have your students in Best Dress for the day, offering our Free Dress Day on  October 13th.

I wanted to communicate what will be happening during this day at school. Filming will begin at  8am and will continue until  12pm. We will follow our normal Period 1-4 schedule. We will be shooting certain students at certain times throughout the day and the entire student body during prayer. We will serve lunch and have the kids do an onsite Spirit Rally, tie dyeing St. Joe's spirit shirts from 12-1. We will resume filming with certain sports teams at this point. IF YOUR STUDENT IS NOT ON ANY OF THE FOLLOWING SPORTS TEAM, THEY MAY BE PICKED UP AT  1PM. If your student IS a member of the following teams, please have them bring their athletic uniform to school  on Friday as well.
Boys Baseball, Girls Soccer (Please bring both colored jerseys), Girls Volleyball, and Mountain Bike Team.

At  1pm we will shoot the Volleyball team in our School Gym.  1:20, we will shoot the Mountain Bike Team outside our gym.  These teams can be picked up by  2:00, or whenever their practice is finished.

We will be shooting our girls soccer team on our soccer field at  1:40. Here is where we get a little tricky...Boys baseball needs to meet at Fort Buenaventura Park at  2:00. Please do not be late. All of our girls soccer and boys baseball players need to then meet back at St. Joseph Catholic Church,  514 24th Street, at  2:40. We will have them change back into their best dress to shoot our final scene of the day.  These students can be picked up at the church by 3.

I hope that this makes sense. We appreciate your willingness to help and make this a successful day of shooting. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Lane.

Uncorked 2017
SAVE THE DATE

On November 18, 2017, Saint Joseph Catholic Schools will continue its annual tradition of wine tasting with Uncorked: Purple Rain. Set against our new back drop at HUB 801, this year's wine choices are a tribute to the vineyards found along the rugged coastlines, sparkling streams, jagged mountains, and rolling green valleys of the Pacific Northwest. At precisely 6:30pm, the wines will be uncorked, and the beer tapped, accompanied by scrumptious hors d'oeuvers. We promise you will not go home hungry. And to keep with tradition, we will be offering several enticing silent auction items.

Please look for your invitation in the mail!
